View Full Version : Ships and Trade
I have played a few campaigns at this stage but each time i hit a severe cashflow problems. My ports do not appear to be making money. They show an income of 0.
For example i am the spanish.I control all of the Western Europe mainland as far as prussia and croatia.Bitish isles, scandanavia and southern italy are neutal or allied to various faction which I kept alive for that purpose and have shipping routes throughout the mediterranean. I am at war with the turks but allied to almohads, egyptians, novograd.
I seem to have very little cash for such a big empire.I have merchants in all provinces with trade goods and ports in all coastal provinces. The eastern med is off limits as the turks are blocking my trade but the north sea and western med are mine.
Welcome to the org. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif Have you looked at the beginners guide to total war? There is a helpful section called “finances and provinces” (just under section 2.4 – it should be 2.5, but there is no 2.5). It should tell you all you need to know. You might also want to check out the thread “Florins coming out your ears” found in this forum. In it a few people explain how they managed to come about their M:TW wealth, and give some pointers with regards to “must do’s” for economic health. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
First check - go to the income summary screen, and click on your provinces. Do then click on the income for any of them which have trade goods. Does it give a list of exports? If not, you're not exporting.
If not, go back to the map screen, and press 'v'. The oceans will be highlighted in red, green, and yellow. Any sea area which you have boats in and which do not have enemy boats are green. You need a chain of green connecting your provinces with ports and merchants to other people's provinces with ports. It has to be a complete chain. Do you have that?

I think the ports show a income of 0 because the money they get goes to the merchants.
Welcome to the Org Bramble
Ports only earn money if another power is trading with the region the port is in using their ships. I suppose it represents import duties. Your own trade (as reported by your trade buildings) relies on your shipping lanes reaching others who do not possess something you can export.

The best way to see wassup wit trade is to click on the coins icon on the bottom left of the strat map. If you double click on a provence with trade established (Trading post or merchant etc.), it will show all of the other provences that you are getting income from. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/santa.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/santa.gif
