The damnedest thing happened to one of my armies last night. I was in a siege battle laying waste to the walls and towers of my enemy’s castle. By five minutes in not one of my men had been touched by arrow fire from the castle (including the “arrow fodder” men I had placed out in front of my siege equipment). Then out of the blue I see the “hit by arrow” square icon flashed on my generals unit located at the back of my army formation. This was followed by the narrative comment that my general was now dead. In the five minutes that followed – before I sent my soldiers in to take out the remaining enemy – not a single one of my other men were hit.

I was left staring at the screen thinking to myself, WTF. Has anyone else experienced such a strange and lucky hit (for or against)? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

I sent out my Uber 9* General with 10 Chivalric Knight units en 5 Gothic Knight units to crush the Russians in Lithuania. Three seconds into the game, they fire their first cannon volley: my general was gone.

This is even more annoyning when you are hit by friendly fire, for example if you move a unit forward and they happen to march through an archer unit, the under fire symbol starts flashing and the unit passing through always takes one or two casualties http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

Might have been what happened here if you moved your general past a seige engine or archer unit?

happened to me in a quick battle the other day (dropped a post in the enrance hall bout it) - Had a Demi culverin, One shot, One dead french general, panic and route ensues (peasantry took a direct hit beside the general and broke) and half his army turned tail and ran.

It was funny http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Hmmm. Based on the description of what happened, I think your title should be "Unlucky shot".

I got a spanish king that didn't have any heirs w/ a group of longbowmen:) They were easy pickings after that, and the pope didn't get mad at me.

Happened to me both ways. I admit it was funny when the whole enemy army routed after one first cannon (lucky) shot.
The other way around was when, just for fun, I decided to crush the petite bombard rebel only unit in some unimportant province using my best Royal Knights unit (5 or 6 stars general, no bad vices). Well... don't you sometimes feel like a monument of stupidity? Like when you charge straight forward the shitty bombard, full speed downhill, and the cannon (who can't even turn, to make things worse) manages to fire one single lousy shot, directly in my general's big head. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif Squashhh.
Now it looks funny as well.

I'm sorry, man. But that was sooooooo funny... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

I must agree, though, that you were really unlucky http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

All armies need Monks to ward off bad luck. We stay back behind the lines by the general chanting and waving a golden bowl around. We do our job, but we can't fight well. Not like if your army is losing we'd stick around anyhow. Not unless we had a Holy hand grenade of course http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
