View Full Version : Stuck on the Bridge

In MTW in the Viking Era as the Saxons, and also as the English in an Early campaign, I've had several big battles that required me to take a bridge.

What happens is that one or two units seem to get stuck on the bridge. Either when they rout or I order them to withdraw so that I can bring in reinforcements, units with less than 10 seem to get stuck on the bridge. It's like one of them hooked his shirt sleeve on a nail and the rest won't leave him.

I have tried to order them to move, forward, backward, attack, rout, but to no avail. Either I play on with fewer units or I have to retreat back across the bridge and try to get the enemy to attack. But, of course, they won't attack, so these guys just stand on the bridge and waver.

I wish there was an option where the General unit could take the heads of other units, summary execution on the battlefield type o' thing.

Anyway, just wondering if others have seen or maybe solved?

I did have that happen once. It was with a unit of 3 men at arms, and they just wouldn't budge. I had the battle won so it didn't really matter, it was just really annoying.

I've seen something like this happen a few times. Not frequent though and it has been awhile.

I thimk it has something to with the fact there are so many dead bodys that they are trapped in the middle of them. I have seen some bloody bridge battles where the stacks of dead bodies piles higher than your men

I’ve never had men get stuck on a bridge before, but I have had a unit of men get stuck behind a tree. They walked straight into it, and then just stayed there walking in place until I physically directed them around. Even the men five down the line from the tree wouldn’t budge. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

this is a good reason why (when playing campaigns, anyway) the timer is needed. i've had men stuck in far corners, unable to leave the map, and have had to start over and reload (which sometimes takes me back a few years.)

with the timer on, you just wait for time to expire and things move on. the potential is there to lose a battle (if you've won but the enemy hasn't been able to leave the field) but sometimes it might be preferable to starting over and having to re-fight several battles just to get to that point again.

That happens to me on almost all me bridge battles.
