I whould have bought the game when it came out,if it wasn't for the fact AoK was takeing up the spare space on my 2 gig drive.I finnaly got bored with AoK a few days ago and decided to buy this game.I instantly loved it.This is the most awesome game.I love tactics, that was my main issue with AoK was the lack thereof.
I noticed there are alot of clans, very interesting how you all communicate.
(I hate being a newb again, but, here it gos)
My annoying list of newbieish questions that shouldn't be asked:
1.Whould a 36K connection be sufficent to play this game MP?
2.Does anyone know how, exactly, the battle system works.
3.(Very newbish question)where do I play MP at?(Sarcasm,I'm not that big a newb.)
4.Are all Cavalry armys viable?
One last thing to throw into the mix.Has anyone noticed a bug where the camera starts to go round and round in circles?I exited the game, and went back in,and the camera continued to swhirl as soon as I begun another Custom Battle.Weird, and just as weird,it stopped without warning.
Well,I hope to get good at this game, and get to know you guys better,I'll be here most every day.

Hi!
1.The modem seems a litte slow for online play. I've never played with a modem like that no I'm so expert. However my friend plays with a 56k and he gets trouble sometimes.
2. Huh?
4. Most people prefer a balenced army though all cavs can be fun!
About the camera, I don't know about this happening. You could try the tech forum. Often when you have the mouse to one side, the camera will spin as the camera follows the mouse.

Yes, I had this happen in a campaign game, I restarted my computer, since my resources were being taxed sorely anyways and the game was starting to bog a little. After the restart, I've never had it happen again since then. I just chalked it up to Windows getting angry and turning on me, or maybe I was accidentally holding an arrow button down while it was loading (or something weird like that).
Where is Port Richley? I live just north of Daytona.

I came from AoK myself. When I bought AoK, I was looking for a game like Shogun. I like the aspect of building towns and such in AoK, but I'm really in it for the tactics that STW does much better.
Besides, I like the Japanese junk.
1) You want to play this game with a member of parliament?
2) A bunch of 2-dimensional men run around on a 3-dimensional hilly lawn and kill each other.
3) I think you ought to play at your computer.
4) All-cavalry armies are perfectly viable. But, in that case, an all-spearmen army is even more viable.
5) Wait until your CD stops spinning before you play.
Seriously, you got good answers to most of your questions. I think I understand #2, but I'm going to bed, now. It requires a long answer.
#4--Practice with an all-cavalry force. I've been trying and it's tricky. But if you succeed, you will have a great time, and be a challenge to oppose.

All cav armies are only useful if you want to go into the glue making business. Sausages anyone?

Thanks guys for the awnsers.About the spinning camera,I didn't restart my computer yet,but I just mash the arrow buttons and it stops.Lol.
Also, about Question #2.IN Aok every unit fought each other singulary.THey all had stats like:
50Hp
5ATtack
1Armour
ANd some other stuff. The attack of the enemy was subtracted by the other guys armour number, and the attack points left were deducted from the HP.They fought until one of the guys ran out of HP.
So how does it work here?I watch those lil guys fight, how does the game determine which one of those lil guys gonna win his 1v1 fight?
Well, thats all I gonna ask here.

Yes I have noticed the spinning camera during the few times I have played online.
Double clicking on a unit from the bottom info row made the camera stop if I remember.

There are a few ways you can work out the battle mechanics in this game
1) Use the built in trainer, not only does this teach you how to use the game it will give you a basic understanding of the units
2) Use the custom battle. Create an army with on type of unit and pitch it against another type of unit. i.e. You choose monks give computer Heavy Cavalry
3) Play friendly matches online
The not so fun ways...
4) Buy the official Prima Strategy Guide, this has details on defencive and offensice capabilites it also includes details on bonuses earned by flanking etc.
5) Use the battle calculator found at http://terazawa_tokugawa.tripod.com/terazawatokugawa/id12.html
Hope this helps. Happy hunting.

Katasaki Hirojima, I too am a newbie to online shogun. Ive been playing single player for months and am just now getting into the online scene.
Anyways, seems your questions have been answered already but I noticed you were from Port Richey and I found that amazing. In all this global online, we are just a few miles from each other http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif Might have even bought the game at the same store hehe.
