My Egyptian empire has defeated the Turks, stormed through Byzantines lands, demolished the Hungarians, and has started attacking the HRE. Within year 2 of the offensive, the Pope sent an assassin to kill my Sultan (an unsuccessful attempt). Holy smokes batman should be Holy assassins batman I never knew the Pope retained assassins

Not only does the pope have assasins, spies, and inquisitors, he has hordes of them. I swear, half the enemy agents my internal security network catches work for the pope. And that's not including the inquisitors he sends out in force.

I figure since he's not really an expansionist and has little need for an army, he ends up spending a lot of his cash and production time on agents. And he uses them heavily.

I have found that too. Over the last 70 years or so (it is around 1237), I have caught at least one assassin or spy each year. Some years I catch several. Who knows how many make it through my lands undetected.

Personally, I find it is fun to assassinate the pope when he gets unruly towards islam (or my excomminicated chrisian empire). Shuts up his lets have a crusade right quick. Once, I seant a 0 valour assassin after a 7 star byzantine king. Somehow, my assassin suceeded and the byzantines didn't have any heirs, so I got easy pickings after they had expaned like mad.
