Well, you say, obviously the one who charged. But when 2 units of, say, swordsmen charge each other, who gets it assuming it is on flat ground? If some Urban Militia and men-at-arms charge each other, do they both get the charge bonus? Or does only the one who charges receive it?

i believe they both do, but certian things increase charge, like more depth in your formation, when i use cav i like to use the spearhead formation as it increases charge. watch out with the deeper formations, sometimes they can incircle you. just never put your guys in 1 long line, my friend did that with his heavy jan inf, my vars went through the middle without slowing down. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

Yes I think they both do...charges also count speed and distance into the calculation, so if you charge too close it wont be as large as your bonus would be if your troops had time to get up to full speed.

So if both units, say mounted sergeants and Feudal Men-at-arms were across a field from each other (but not enough to tire themselves out) they would both recieve the bonus? (both had enough time to get up to speed)
I know things like downhill, fatigue of men, speed, and unit atributes all contribute to a charge, I was making sure that both units did get the bonus, not just whoever's charge was higher. Anyway, thanks for your help.

I think only speed matter. When you charge uphill it is likely that you don't have enough speed to get charge bonus

The way I understand it there is a number generated by your attack and defense that predicts the likelihood of a soldier killing another. The charge bonus is added to that for a paticular amount of time if the unit is charging. So both units would get bonus if they were both charging.

Informal tests I've run show that they must both get the bonus, and the net effect is that more men are likely to die when the charges impact. So if two units that have high attack and charge value, charge each other, more men will die immediately. Try charging two spear units into each other and, oh, just maybe two units will die rather than one.
