View Full Version : Recorded Games
Well, Im a massive fan of recorded games in MTW (They've been an amazing help in the past), But there are no fansites dedicated to this for the TW series, primarily for rome (There is for the microsoft/Ensemble Age of Empires/kings/mythology and Warcraft 3 and the like) - So I was thinking of making a similar site - Somewhere you sign up to and can post recorded games onto. I get free hosting from a company (10-20 gb http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif cos I made their website) so Im all set - but I Don't want to alone
I'm asking here since i've been a long time lurker, and due to the fact there is no immaturity here at all, if there are any other PHP coders willing to lend me a bit of elbow grease and get involved? Now, im fairly experienced with PHP, but its a lot of work, testing and so on, hence the request.
Anyways, This my not be the most exiting of posts, but its aimed mainly at the upcoming R:TW. If The mods move it, Pm me and tell me where in case I can'd find it lol, But any feedback, or offers for help would be great In which case im perfectly happily to elaborate on the above. but I wont bore you with details http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Thx to anyone who reads in advance http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Intesting, i would love to help but im really busy with other things and what time i do have i commit into the org, but good luck http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif

Hehe mtwaddicts.com eh? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
little sample design online atm, but no name finalised so you can ignore the banner name.
You can see it here (http://www.extreme-design.net/gory/rtw/)
Depending on how it goes I might need more help but we'll get to that when it happens. And cheers for the good luck with storm ^^
wow thats site is great http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif
is it a fansite of a recorded game site? i think you shouild do a fan site its got the potential to be good from the look of it .
I was talking to a few people who said the same, but no matter which I choose, I need a decent staff behind me. Its like making a clan. One man can't make a successful clan. You need people you can rely on at the start lol.
but if anyone is interested, drop me a email at gory@last-refusal.co.uk, But whether or not it becomes a fansite (the image is PSD format), recorded games will be its major focus; This is a feature that could really go a long long way if handled correctly
Oh and thanks for the compliments storm http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
they way to a successful fansite is to have something uniqe, the org has its packed forums and many links to other TW sites and legiontotalwar has its TC vids, the two most popular sites isnt a suprise we have other liek the collosium annd rome.co.uk but there not unique so ur record vidio idea might make it unique if you get what im saying.
Merry Christmas http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/santa.gif
Apologies for the (half) shameless bump, but I just updated the site (here (http://www.extreme-design.net/gory/rtw)), and i've taken stormers suggestions on board..And Decided to make a go for it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
I've been helping run a large Master Of Orion 3 fansite for quite a while (moo3.at) so I sorta know what im at, but i'm all alone, so anyone who wants to help out in any way (even if its simply their support) drop a post here. And no, its not "competing with the org incase anyone suggests. I could only hope to become a quarter as popular hehe. Forums ere rock ^^. Need newsies, content, forum mods, etc. Oh yes, im taking phpBB apart bit by bit and theming it to the website, buttons, images layout and so on. Gotta love PHPBB.
Focusing on recorded games. it will be a fansite, but records will be its special feature I hope. I've already got a working news script (self coded, took 2 hours, php, sql, etc. standard stuff), and ill be looking at starting coding a recorded games upload feature. Come to think of it, ill need a file size limit. MTW rarely passes 50kb, so about 80 should be fine, but anyone have any idea the possible size in RTW? Odd question to ask em isnt it...
interviewer: "now, I know rome will be great etc...but what size are the recorded games?"
CA: "You what?"
hehe. Domain and hosting is on order. With my money. so I hope it goes somewhere http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
oh, edit - All those "links" aren't really links. They're just in there for testing the layout and CSS. im (optimistically) hoping for a february/march launch with a completely working website.

I think I should congratulate you for the original idea. BTW your web design is very good. Great looking site. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif
Unfortunatelly I can't really help you (lack of time and knowledge). http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif
But I'm sure lots of people here at the ORG will jump in to help you. Just keep announcing your project. They will probably contact you soon. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
iv been thinking and if you want im will give you a hand getting the website up and running and we see how it goes from their http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
but im still gonna stay with the org if thats ok?
if you have msn messenger add me as ukstormer@hotmail.com

Hi Ashen, any chance of recorded Time Commanders episodes in the future on the site?
That would probably make u compete with Legiontotalwar.com, but then again, your site will be the focus of recorded games/archive as such. Not that ur trying to compete with anyone or anything on purpose for world conquest.
First, this has nothing vs the org. I love this place and I aint going anywhere ^^
Secondly, well, I think the whole time commanders video thing is slightly...hehe...on lets say, the shadier side of copyright law. Plus its a waste of bandwidth when you can get it elsewhere http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
And thanks for the offer stormer http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif added you to msn

Fair nuff, Ashen.
Bandwidth is a precious commodity nowadays.
Can't wait for the site to be finished though.
Kat.
check the design out now. Me and stormer are busy little bees :P
got the domain and hosting on order, totalrome.com.
but don't expect anything til our official release date of Feb 1st. but heres hoping it'll be mostly done before then http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif

Great Idea Ashen http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif
One of my favorite things about MTW is the ability to save battles and, watch them seeing what I did wrong and, correcting my problems and, of course watching my Byzantines Massacre the Turkish Hordes http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
Im more of a
a: Watch my italians get thrashed yet again by the HRE sneak attacking weak garrisons
or
b: Watch my russians dominate the earth.
And, rarely, but sometimes,
c: rewatch my mass viking charges with the danes. fun fun fun http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Sounds like a great idea. As I have absolutely no php skills whatsoever, I will remain on the sidelines with a big http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif
well. You have about 3 hours to check the work in progress version. Its hosted on my hard-drive (I have apache and sql running).
having trouble with domain registers fixing up name servers which is getting to be very irritating. But anyways.
You can check it here (http://81.86.236.117/index.php)
Its got a little list of "jobs" as such going. Don't want it to fizzle out due to lack of backing. Also, big thanks to Stormer who basically fiddled with what we need staff wise. Smart lad he is http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
oh, if anyone needs us, use our emails on forums here, don't email anything@totalrome.com. Stupid domain registrars (webmania.co.uk - Had problems with em before too. Shoulda learned my lesson I think)

I was just wondering how long would it take to download the videos? Also Would you have to start up MTW to play the videos? I think it would be awesome to play my videos on Windows Media or Divx. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif
its not videos.
See when you finish a battle in MTW, it says "Save Replay"? Thats what I mean. Those are very small, perhaps 10 seconds downloading on a 56k modem. If you converted them into windows media/DivX that would make them 2-3 hours, perhaps a lot more on 56k, and lower quality.
So it makes sense not to http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Seriously, good work Ashen and Stormer. I liek teh pie1111111one11 Er.. the site. Yes, that...
heh. We got totalrome.com
Having a very VERY irritating time with the company we registered it with on saturday.
8 emails and they still haven't bothered their backsides changing nameservers. In essence, Our hosting is gathering dust as the company is too bloody lazy to fix what we paid for.
Wizzy, why dont you become a forum mod/news poster http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
check here (http://www.extreme-design.net/gory/rtw/) to see all teh details and any work we've got so far

Just a little note on the 'factions' section: Armenia was also seen on TC, as was Illyria (which was the Theban faction in the Leuctra episode) if I'm correct.
Blame stormer http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif will add em now

Do anything you want to it. altho be nice. we're testing it now to make sure I havent broken anything. but it seems fine so far :/
