I was just wondering, how good is everyone else at this game? The best I can really do beat a comp on expert that has 10,000 florins when I have 8,000. I almost certain that most people here have more prowess than I. Just curious.

Edit- my bad, made a mistake, rewriting ^^

FLorins so low for a custom battle a general does not make - Try the campaign. Also, the beauty of low florins is units do what they should. High florins perverts the game. When units get a high valor rating it improves their morale, attack and defence, and you sometimes see longbows getting stuck in vs sword troops and winning

Therefore, yes, that is a reasonable achievment. But try a campaign on expert. I think someone somewhere put up a poll/thread naming what we thought the hardest factions were. Give that a whirl

The problem with the AI is its (general) predictability. Sometimes, It scares me, sometimes it bores me. (It just scared me in case your wondering - Enveloped 4 units of Steppe heavy cav by using the woods. naughty AI).

Generally, I would say skill is more a matter of how you win and how little you loose, but I can't really point at any people offline or online - Altho the 7bear7 clan have gave me quite a few painful moments in the past.

There several different areas to excel in: the campaign game (both Dominance and Glorious Achievement) in Viking, Shogun, Medieval, and there are the MP games.

Playing against the AI in Custom Battles (and don't forget the Historical Campaigns and Battles) is, IMHO, a good way to get started, to learn the ropes as it were. But as Ashen states, after a while you reach the limits of the AI battle capability. Then, I think, you need to take it online.

There are many very strong players. Some folks amaze me with their knowledge of the unit stats, and strategy, and their ability to see the battle, to think three moves ahead. Others are remarkable for their ability to control 16 units at once.

Then there are those who mod, make maps, develop strategy gides and unit guides. These guys have a prowess all their own.

How good is everyone? Well, there are a few that if you ask, they'll tell you they are pretty good. Me, sometimes I win, sometimes I lose. But learning this game is pretty fun.

What I really do best with is the broad campaign. I do like to play on expert in the campaigns(fav faction are the Argonese or English). I usually don't play all the battles, I just get good generals so I can save time.
