How the hell do I get to Malta?

I'm playing as the Germans. I've conquered almost all of Europe and the Middle East, with the exception of the Italian Penninsula and a couple of islands, Malta being one of these. I have the most advanced boats available to my faction (carracks) and have ships in every section of the ocean; I can traverse the seas at will.

Even so, when I try to invade Malta the island does not highlight as reachable to my troops. I have two Grand Inquisitors on the island trying to kill off the Sicilian King and his sons, but no luck so far. I'll look to other methods of subterfuge (spies, assassins, etc.) until I can figure out how to get there, but it would be much quicker and easier for me to simply crush them and be done with it.

What am I missing? Any and all advice is much appreciated.

I had the same problems as the Almonhads trying to invade England, instead I just went in through France. Do the Sicilians have a port on Malta as it says in the MTW manual, Transporting armies : Fleets can transferr armies along a trade rout between PORTS providing NO enemy fleets block your passage. I maight go test this out cos I'm not sure of it. Hope it helped

Once again, you must have a ship in every sea zone linking between your source port and the destination (Malta Channel). The destination doesn't need to have a port, but the source must have one. Check it, especially that you have a ship in the Malta sea zone and not in the Central Mediterranean where the zoomed in map of Malta appears, IIRC.

Also there must be no enemy vessels present in the sea regions of your invasion route. You can check this by pressing the V key on your keyboard when on the campaign map. Yellow and green zones are ok to pass, red ones are blocked, uncoloured ones are zones where you don't have any of your ships stationed.

I figured it out.

The Sicilians had a ship on their island's space. Although I hadn't declared war on them, that ship was still considered a blockade. Once I sank their ship I was able to roll over them easily.

I've owned this game for two years and I'm still learning new, subtle insights. This is turning out to be my favorite game ever.
