I am sorry if this question was already posted but i don't know if high honour gives a better moral? I know that honour 1 gives +1 in attack, h2 gives +1 in attack and +1 in defence, etc but what about moral? Thanks.

Extra honour makes a unit more effective all round. A high honour unit is less likely to break quickly, and is more itimidating to enemy of lower honour who are therefore more likely to run.

High honour units are much better soldiers than those with less or no honour and they gain defence bonuses against archers.

I know that honor gives attack and defence bonus but my problem is that the cavalry units are routed BEFORE entering in melee with musket so their high attack value and defence value are no used.

Mildy off the thread's normal vein, but WOW! Did I just see someone assert that firearms are effective? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

A little background- I picked up the game quite some time ago (a couple months), but to date I've only played the campaign mode, and until three days ago always auto-calculated (I was too eager to conquer Japan, I didn't have time to slog around getting killed! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif).

Anyway, I came to my senses and love the combat engine- unfortunately, I also love musketeers... mmm... boom... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Imagine my shock when I read someone mention effective gunners!

So, aside from building them in Owari, Tosa, or Yamashiro, and stickin' 'em with a decent general, how are you going to get them to live long enough to be worthwhile?

Okay, done rambling...

Put'em atop a hill, thats all you need to know.I killed half of a Yari Samurai army in a few volleys from the top of a mountain, and those guys were so far away my archers chouldn't reach'em.They may not kill to many units..but,if they scare away half the army, isn't that good enough?I got over my love of the boom(not really) and use only a couple units, the rest goes into cavalry archers..great units..they can charge archers, fire at Yari, and get around quickly to where I need them.A all CA army is viable, but it takes forever to win because you have to keep running from hill to hill, open fire, run when they get to the top,go to another hill, fire, wait, rince, repeat as neccessary.I keep a few Yari Cavalry around to take on any enemy cavalry, and to distract enemy archers while the main body of my army runs to the next hill.

oops,I'm rambling again..

Musket units don't do much more dammage than archers but their advantage is that they cause fear. Against fear, high attack and defence value are useless. The only defence against fear is a good moral. That's why i wish to know if honour gives moral bonus (in multiplayer games). Thanks.

To the nest of my knowledge each type of unit has a set morale level. This does not change in MP games. Honour on the other hand increases h-t-h abilities. You can see the effect of honour vrs morale if you come against high honour ashigaru. These peasans with pointy sticks may be upped in honour to seven or eight, but they still run like vipped dogs if they get flanked. Proof I think, that morale is a constant and dodes not change with honour.

Too Cool,

It's a mistake to try and compensate for using the wrong mix of troops by increasing their honour, armour or morale.

The solution to beating those musketeers is to use your own or to pray for rain.

Yabusama: Thanks. That's what i wanted to know.

Didz: Yes, you're right! I am newbie in multiplayer and single player games gave me bad habits, i have to learn how to play against human! During my first battles, i tried to charge enemy muskets and i didn't understand why all my army root very quickly!
Yesterday, my opponent used nodashi rush tactic (in heavy fog) and i lose!!! :-( I suppose i am very bad.

TooCool,

Regarding cav vs musk: You're seeing the effect of a special morale hit that cav take when fired on by guns. You'll have to flank the guns with the cav and hope there are no spears around to be effective.

Regarding rush: Put your main line in hold formation and hold positon, flank attackers with speedy units, fire into the bunch with ranged units and cross your fingers.

If I've got this figured out correctly, ranged tacticians prefer summer or winter, and hth tacticians prefer spring or autumn. If you join a game, ask what the season is before selecting your troops. You may want to adjust your troop selection depending on what you think is coming at you.

Great point about the seasons- I hadn't thought of that beyond summer- but you're right, my muskies ought not to have too much trouble in winter- I'll try that http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Bring 'em on whatever the weather! Eat useless length of wood and metal scum!

An army containing guns will only ever me seriously crippled by bad weather if it relies on them too heavily. So don't. Use them in MP, but don't rely on them in competitive games.

Although defeating a monk rush in the rain with no muskets is more than a little difficult!
