As my description says, I am playing the Almohads, and we are now in 1160 AD
I have all the Iberian provinces with IRON resources, I think that is about 4 of them...
I have Castles (Level 3 ) in all of these provinces as well, and they are fairly well-developped anyway.
I even have Blacksniths in all of these provinces, mostly of the Level 1 variety (1 is level 2 blacksmith)
I still do not get the choice to build my MetalSmiths in these 4 provinces...
What am I missing ? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
Is there a date where it starts ? I am , as I said earlier, in 1160 or so, close to 80 years of development in the Game.
As the Almohads, I won all of Iberia, the North Africa, Egypt, the Turcish lands and all of the Byzantine Empire + Khazar/Lithuania/Livonia...
Can someone fill me ?
save Game available upon request
thx

OK, let me get this straight. You have 3 Level 1 and 1 Level 2 blacksmiths... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif ...huuuuummmm... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif ...tell me, what's a blacksmith in the game?

A fort and a keep do not allow you to build a metalsmith. You need a castle for the lowest level metalsmith (the castle that takes 12 years and 2000 florins to build). A citadel (16 years and 4000 florins) allows you to build a level 2 metalsmith, or metalsmith's workshop. While you need a fortress (20 years and 8000 florins) to build the level 3 metalsmith, or guild, as well as the big level 4 master metalsmith.

Ok, I must have explained pretty badly what I meant...
Sigh...
I ** think ** I have all the pre-requisites such as the
Castle (level 3 Fortification)
Iron in the 4 affected provinces...
and in some cases I even have the Blacksmiths; unrelated but shows that I can built with armour upgrades; that works...
But I NEVER get the choice to build Metalsmiths.
It is in 1160 as well; is there a time that is becomes active ?
What am I doing wrong ?

i think, but dont quote me on this, that may need the swordsmith type building as a prerequisite, the one that would give FMAA or their islamic equivalents

Yoko Kono is right. You need a swordsmith before the option to build a metalsmith is available.
BTW, it isn't blacksmith, it's armourer... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

heh someone has been playing shogun http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
indeed you need swordsmith to be able and then upgrade to citadel to be able to upgrade your metalsmith and then fortress to get the third upgrade etc

Well, according to the chart that came with MTW, you only need a castle to build a metalsmith. This is confirmed by a more trusty source of Frogbeastegg's and Bushface's guide.
So, to put it short you only need IRON in the resource panel of the province and you need to have a castle.
Your predicament is very curious.
If your game is for VI 2.01 then send me a savegame.

Hopefully this can be fixed.

EDIT as far as i know you DO NOT need a swordsmith, but whatever.

Revenant69 is quite correct
im using 2.01 and just tested his theory by building only a fort, a keep and then a castle in carpathia, so the province has a keep and nothing more, and the option to build a metalsmith is now present
