View Full Version : Med Mod IV - 3.14
This is my first mod I have used. Ad what an eye-opener.I
It will take me a while to work out all the rules as opposed to the standard game. The realism is excellent. The units are great. It gives a more accurate picture. Especially the limit to building specialised units only in homeland provinces. A real good idea.
I would like to say to all those who worked on this mod, Thank You for a wonderful addition to my best game to date.
WesW did a great job on that mod.

Im having a really fun campaign in a modified Medmod 3.14 now.
Since the AI always is cashstrapped and often don't build high end units, I find the game not very challenging. So what I did was a) increase farm income 3-4 times b) give every fraction a capital which is basically a fully developed province and c) reduce build time of all enemy fractions units to 1 turn (while keeping the 2 turn limit for my fraction).
This has led to a very interesting campaign. I am the Swiss in late period and for once I am doubtful if I will be able to pull it off. First of all the computer is building massive armies and they are building high end units because basically everyone is rich. Hopefully the AI is teching up provinces fast also. So there is no way I can steamroll anyone (especially with the Swiss who have no cav and generally a more defensive type of army). Secondly there are a lot of unexpected developments for me. The pope is hyperaggresive and has almost conquered his way up to the english channel. The danes have spread via England down to Spain. The turks are steamrolling everything in its path and have reached Hungary.
Myself I have 6 provinces (Bavaria and the five surrounding provinces) and no coastal territory and smaller armies than any of the forces surrounding me. If the pope decides to attack me (he is bordering me to the south and to the west all the way up to Flanders) I will probably end up being attacked from every direction.
Most interesting campaign I ever played.

Welcome aboard Duerfian http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif It is the rare person who seems to think the MedMod isn't a great challenge. Just curious, you find it easy playing on expert that you have to mod the MedMod?
It's a mod mod mod mod world out there. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Some fractions are pretty hard in Medmod. Especially HRE, since it almost seems hardcoded that they will be excommunicated and attacked by everyone the first few rounds.
For the others the challenge is in the first 20-30 rounds. Once you are past that you can almost tell you are going to win the campaign, since you are starting to make money and tech all your provinces. Meanwhile the AI fractions fight back and forth tearing down buildings in their most valuable provinces, making them less and less dangerous.
Anyway, people shouldn't be afraid to experiment with the files (as long as they make backups). For example before I reduced the 2 turn build time on enemy units, I noticed that the viking fractions were building Bondi 90% of the time. Thousands and thousands of them, but no armoured housecarles despite being given the building requirements to build them. After I reduced the buildtime to 1 they are pumping out high end units and are a huge threat. Same with Turkey and janissaries. Which in the end makes it more fun for me because I like fighting against the really good units.
I am up to 1258, playing Spanish and the English, Danes are the only significant other Christians remaining. The Horde have come an gone with the Byzantines holding at least 40% of the map and are pentrating into France.
I have conquered Africa to Algeria and am looking to building my forces up for an attack on Byzantine in the High Age. I am concerned that the English and Danes will have it hard defending their 30%.
I also have 30%, but also have +4 Armour/+4 Attack in all my key producing provinces. Given the weight penalty this gives, it is best I use these forces in Europe and drive the Byzantines back to the Middle East, where I can then launch my light forces across the African desert to pincer them in between.
Note, I also hold, Normandy, Wessex and Mercia. I invaded when they were rebels and hence, did not attack England.
