This would be in the Repository, but it won't let me post there as a Junior member.....so this is the scond best place to put it

If you wish to make your men the best, the fastest, stealthy, over sized, and many other things......get Gnome editor Click on files (above, just left of the link that says control panel, and chat) Go down till you see tools, and check for the Prod files editor from Gnome.

If your too lazy to download this file (on my 56k it took about 10 sec&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif or just like the pride and satisfaction of doing it yourself (why are you at this guide?) then read on.

ATTENTION: THIS IS FOR THE VIKING PRODUCTION FILE, SIMMILAR TO THE CRUSADER PRODUCTION FILE, BUT UNTESTED AS FAR AS I HAVE DONE

Open the MTW:VI folder. Should be located under C:, Program files, Total War, Viking Invasion. File names may vary. It is located in the main Vi foulder. VIKINGS_UNIT_PROD should be the name. Think of the unit you wish to mod. If you using XP home edition (I can't say for others, check) click eidt, and find. Type in the name of your unit. It should take you to it. You will see a jumble of words and numbers that makes no sense at all. if you could see it in the form of tables, it would all make much better sense. Thats what Gnome is for. Here though is some help.

Berserkers INFANTRY 375 5 1 0 80 100 1 DISCOURAGED "CATH_REBELS(4), CATH_LOYALISTS(4), CATH_PEASANTS(4), CATH_BANDITS(4), CATH_ZEALOTS(4), PAG_REBELS(5), PAG_LOYALISTS(5), PAG_PEASANTS(5), PAG_BANDITS(5), PAG_ZEALOTS(5)," "POVERTY_STRICKEN(19.8), DESPERATE_DEFENCE(198), CATHOLIC_EXPANSIONIST(158.4), CATHOLIC_NAVAL_EXPANSIONIST(158.4), CATHOLIC_TRADER(198), CATHOLIC_CRUSADER_TRADER(198), CATHOLIC_EXPANSIONIST_CRUSADER(158.4), CATHOLIC_DEFENSIVE_CRUSADER(237.6), POPE(297), CATHOLIC_DEFENSIVE(237.6), CATHOLIC_ISOLATIONIST(297), ORTHODOX_DEFENSIVE(237.6), ORTHODOX_EXPANSIONIST(158.4), ORTHODOX_STAGNANT(198), MUSLIM_PEACEFUL(198), MUSLIM_EXPANSIONIST(158.4), MUSLIM_DEVOUT(158.4), BARBARIAN_RAIDER(79.2), REBELS(198), CLOSE_TO_SUPPORT_LIMIT(73.26)" {INN} DEFENDER ALL_PERIODS YES "HEIGHT( 85 ), RADIUS( 25 ), SCALE( 120 ), PROJECTILE_TYPE( NONE ), SAMURAI( YES ), MARCH_SPEED( 40 ), RUN_SPEED( 40 ), CHARGE_SPEED( 40 ), MIN_TURNSPEED( 2 ), MAX_TURNSPEED( 8 ), TURN_TO_MOTION_SPEED( 8 ), MAX_INMOTION_TURN( 96 ), FORMATION_WIDTH_SPACING( 75 ), FORMATION_LENGTH_SPACING( 75 ), ENGAGEMENT_THRESHOLD( 1500 ), CHARGE_BONUS( 10 ), MELEE_BONUS( 9 ), DEFENCE_BONUS( 9 ), ARMOUR_LEVEL( 1 ), HONOUR_LEVEL( 12 ), AMMO( 0 ), FORMATIONS_PREFERRED_NUM_ROWS( 5 )" NO "own_unit_tooltip1, own_unit_tooltip2, other_unit_tooltip1, other_unit_tooltip2" "TOPLESSLOON, YES, YES" "FN_07, FN_04" "Missile, Shocktroop, Spear, Cavalry" "SKIRMISH(2), ADVANCE_PARTY(1),
OUTFLANKING_FORCE(2), MAIN_BODY(1), HOLD_TERRAIN(0), RESERVE(1), REINFORCEMENT(1), ASSAULT(1), ASSAULT_COVER(2), ASSAULT_COVER_CASTLE_ATTACK(0), COVER(1)" 0 UNCONTROLLED UNFORMED LARGE YES 1 NO 0 0 SWORD NO "FN_07, FN_04"

This is somehting close to what you will see. All of this is for one unit. Take a look at the first word, Berserkers. That tells you that this is the info to edit the berserkers. When you see another unit name, stop. The first thing to edit would be the number 375. its in same order for the other units. Name, class (infantry) then price of florins to train. You cna lower this number, or raise it, to whatever you so desire. The second numbr is the number of the support cost, the third is the time of construction. the rest is as follows

starting honor
unit base strenght
number of men(this says 100, but in your unmooded files it should say 12)
Honour step value
General candidATE

the next thing you'll see that is for beginners modding, would be the name of the building required to train these men.

the next begginers stuff, will be labeled like this HEIGHT (85) that is self explanitory, as are the next few. Want giants on your battle field? just make that number a little, or alot higher. I am not sure what the limit is though. You will eventually see a yes or a no. Yes makes the unit "invisible" on the map

the gnome editor works for the crusader prod file too, not only the VI files

yeah i knew gnome did, but i didnt know if the exact order of things were the same. such as first initial cost, then support costs...etc.
