Just out of curiosity: in my current campaign (wesmod/english/early/expert) i've received, more than once, messages concerning rebel spies and assassins - usually a few years after some faction is eliminated, but that may be pure coincidence, since there are factions being eliminated all the time, and, as far as i know, spies and assassins should be disbanded when their nation disappears (as are emissaries and boats). But, if they are really leftovers - have they become freelancers? Or could the rebels really be plotting my downfall?

I have some .jpg screenshots, if someone tells me how and where (and if someone wants, of course), i could upload it. By the way, i've also alread seen the rebels build a barque - unfortunately i forgot to take a screenshot......

I don't think I've ever caught a rebel spy, but I'm pretty sure they exist. Do you have VI or vanilla M:TW?

I always thought that the rebel spies and assassins disappear, like the ships do. Sometimes I do catch an enemy assassin and don't find out for whom he worked, but rebel spies and assassins? Never experienced that.

There are some guidelines on how to post pictures, I forgot the exact place where it was, do a quick search and you might well find something, I couldn't dig it up and have little time on my hands right now. But, please, be sure to post those images, though I would suggest a .gif format instead, anything less than 2 MB won't be accepted. You can post more shots, but keep them under 2 mb and preferably in .gif format.

I have seen it,

You get a message saying that a Spy or Assassin has been caught and killed and that we have information that he was working for The Rebels.

My guess would be that these are not leftovers form other factions (because I always seem to get them, even without a faction being wiped out).

My guess would be that the AI places assassins on the map to go around and stir up trouble on the map, given that I have hardly ever seen the AI actually build any Taverns I think this must be the case... Because I always seem to capture loads and loads of assassins.

Think of the rebel assassins as freelancers or just guys with grudges, they work alone and for their own motivations.

I remember seeing discussions about this in the archive. It seems to be an old issue. Perhaps it is a bug?

You can find guidelines to upload pictures in the Mead Hall, which is part of the Story/PBM forum (game-related). Just look for Uploading pictures to the org. Or you can click here (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=24;t=10398).

Note: there have been troubles with uploading lately, so check out the front page of the org (www.totalwar.org). TosaInu has placed advise for uploading there.

Well, funny enough, but last night I saw my first rebel assassin being killed by my security forces. I was spacing through eh massages and some fifth assassin killed message was referring to a rebel assassin I caught and killed in Serbia. I was playing as Italian and had this province for 40 years or more, all the surrounding province were Hungarian/Byzantine and no rebels in sight. Perhaps they were native ones? Few turns later I got another one, which made me wonder how many times had this happened before and I just overlooked it... TW has always some new surprises to offer, I simply adore this game.

after a few more rebel assassins in my campaign, i think the_emperor is right... there were only two rebel provinces on the map for the last 10 or 15 turns, none of them had a tavern and still i caught a rebel assassin. and then another. since there are border forts all over the map, i think its quite improbable that they were hopping around europe during all that time.

or maybe the messages concerning who sent the assassin are just a guess? there is evidence, but, eh, we're not sure, sir

shaitan: yes i am using wesmod. also, it only happened after i installed wesmod - but i think it is because in vanilla MTW no AI faction has the resources to spare on agents. with wesmod i've seen a 6-star grand inquisitor burning my generals

what puzzles me is, the rebel agents seem to appear even when the rebels can't build them. it is not like the corsican rebels who spent 40 years building bombards.....
