Or do I have it all wrong? I've had two "games" now where the carpet is lifted right out from under me at the end of the game.

I'm not a newbie, but nowhere near as experienced as most here. I was playing the regular campaign (STW: TMI) as Imagawa, and had three-fourths of Japan taken over with three hefty opponents left (on Normal). I saved just before a major attack, and good thing I did, because I played this out twice:

#1--I try a river crossing against rebels and they beat me, taking great losses themselves. After the battle, all my conquered and some of my native provinces go into rebellion, and most of the rebel armies are quite sizeable! The, half of them join a Mori resurgence, and of course destroy most of the buildings in these provinces.

2#--I re-play this and WIN the river crossing. You'd think that would change the mass rebellion. Nope--makes it WORSE! Now, every single province, native or not, rebels. The only ones that don't go into rebellion either have sizeable Imagawa forces or Hojo/Uesugi remnants. And then half go Mori.

Is this for real? I had Shinobi in just about every non-native province, and some small armies in about five of them. I could understand the mass reaction if my daimyo was killed, but he was fat and happy and ready to rule. Is this a normal reaction as a player gets close to the Shogunate? There hadn't been rebellions to speak of previously. Must one litter conquered provinces with garrisons to prevent this sort of thing? Do let me know.

Because, much as I adore the realism in this game, after working for hours and hours to get to that spot, I am not going to play it out from that point, unless of course I actually triggered something. Must I neglect playing campaigns?

Thanks for any words of advice!

Nate

There's a lively debate about this issue with a number of reasons why this can happen over at the community forum. Check it here:

I don't recommend cheats, but in this case, type .matteosartori. on the screen.

Remember to put the period (dot) before and after the code.

This will allow you see the enemy shinobi/ninja. See if that caused the massive rebellion.

Also remember that one revolt in a place will have cascade effect on its neighboring provinces.
