View Full Version : Making Peace With Rebels...

Is there any way to make peace with rebel provinces?
After you invade a rebel province, rebels all over the world become your enemies instantly (which is totally unrealistic by the way). Probably the developers found it would be difficult to keep track of every rebel province separately.
Lots of times rebel provinces can have ports, but at the same time they are not worth taking over (poor and/or revolt-prone provinces). So they could be potential trade partners.
But because you invaded a single rebel province 200 years ago they will all be your enemies forever and you won't be able to trade with them.
Is there any solution to this?

To make peace with the rebels (or any other faction) simply break contact with them for a year.

Quote[/b] (Herodotus @ Jan. 13 2004,19:52)]To make peace with the rebels (or any other faction) simply break contact with them for a year.
What do you mean by breaking contact?
1. Having no borders with them?
2. Removing my agents from there?
3. Or simply not attacking them?
I do number 3 all the time but they remain my enemies forever. Is it something that was adressed in VI? I've got MTW 1.1 only...
Question: What are you afraid of them for anyway? The rebels are mostly passive and have smaller armies (in their original provinces). Even if they have 'uber' armies, its unlikely that they would mount a campaign against you. They are just like any faction in TotalWar, they'd stab you in the back if they get half the chance. Even the 'playable' factions can't be trusted with an Alliance. I would suggest that you take the rebel provinces as soon as you can, before the damn Italians lands with a 5-army invasion unexpectedly.

Caspian, I'm not afraid of them anyway. I usually invade rebel provinces. But that's not the point.
Sometimes there are some provinces such as Livonia and Scotland which I won't bother invading them, be it because of high revolt probability, be it because of low income potential. But if they have ports, they can still be beneficial to me in trading.
Hence my question, can I make peace with rebels to be able to trade with them?

All rebel provinces are collectively handled by the game as a single 'Rebel' faction. To get an auto-ceasefire:
1) no land borders. if possible, assimilate bordering rebel provs.
2) no ships in seas along their borders. Some provs (like Greece) have many seas that touch their borders, make sure u get them all clear.
After one full turn of zero contact, an auto-ceasfire will occur.
note: agents do not have to be withdrawn. If the rebs have any ships in a sea touching your coast, they'll remain at war with u. sink it first.
edit: @caspian: sometimes u want peace with rebs so u can generate some trade income from reb provs with ports.

Thanks for clearing that up for me Motorhead... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-thumbsup.gif
Im sorry if I sound a bit uncouth. Trade tends to be far from my top priority when planning World Domination (TW World http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-beam.gif). Too many times I have a high income when half of it will be gone when a faction attacks me and the sea lanes will become hostile. I tend to develop my provinces more than trading with potential enemies.

I thought rebels don't provide trade income? That's one reason I like to keep AI factions alive if possible, to keep the trade going.

Caspian: No problem, friend If you took the time to post an answer it shows you were trying to help. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-thumbsup.gif
Simon Appleton: Rebels do provide trade income, at least in MTW 1.1. This is assuming they are neutral with you, of course

Yes they do. Must be neutral and of course still have a port in their province...
I tend not to trade at all... just sink enemy ships and attack their provinces via boat. I played as th vikings once and just for fun made a HUGE navy that I used to invade Egypt. Not exactly the most realistic thng ever but it is still fun to do.

I believe you mean the Danes, not the Vikings? I think the Danes would be insulted :)
For that matter, so would the Vikings... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-jester.gif
