I've been reading the posts here for quite some time, mostly in the TW:VI forum, and to my surprise, when I attempted to post a reply, was notified that I couldn't?
After reading the Guild Membership Info, I now understand why, so, in the hopes of being honored with guild membership, here's my introductory post.
I've been in gaming for over 30 years, both as a player, and as a retailer, cutting my teeth on SPI and AH, and have been playing MTW, as well as VI, since it's release. I tend to RP my games, finding that the programmed opponents are far too easy to defeat unless I help them out in the early game, which, while initially annoying, is now a basic part of the game to me.
I typically play Early, Expert, GA, and fight most of my own battles, unless the conclusion is so obvious as to make it a pointless exercise, I never bribe Rebels, unless I'm trying to help a dead faction re-emerge, and after settling on my initial borders, I do very little, if any, expansion, or offensive warmaking, until around the mid 1300s, at which point, it's on Though I think I've nearly seen everything the game can throw at you, I'm still surprised by the occasional weird occurence, such as my recent 250 year alliance with the Poles, while playing as Hungary.
Currently, I've been trying to pin down the assignation of V&Vs, and have found them to be quite, well, random, in some cases, particularly the mutant vices, and easily attainable in other cases, such as the Bravery virtues, which I can assure my generals receive by keeping them in provinces bordering nations with large armies, or neutral or enemy status. I've also discovered that rotating the first unit in an army is a good way to gain V&Vs for my generals, and suspect that the buildings in a province can be manipulated to produce certain results, I'm still working on this, especially in regards to the Acumen increasing virtues.
So much for my MTW pedigree, as for the world wide web, I've been managing my own business site for 7 years or so, and doing quite well with it, as well, I am Admin for one of the top rated Fantasy Football sites on the net, and a contributing member of many other sports and game related sites and message boards, which, out of respect for this site's owners, I will not name.
Personally, I'm the father of 2 fine young men, the youngest of whom is an avid STW player, and have been married to the same incredible woman for 23 years, a testament to her patience, as well as forbearance. Having fought heavy combat under the auspices of the Society for Creative Anachronism for nearly a decade during my younger, more agile days, I'm quite well versed with the extremities and rewards of warfare, medieval style, alas, these days my broadsword has become this keyboard, while my field of battle is, likely as not, CA's magnificent creation.
To the site owners, mods, and members, I've gleaned quite a bit of useful info from your pages over the past couple of years, and would like to offer my thanks, as well as express my desire to become a participating member, the darkness of lurkerland is beginning to wear on me, just a wee bit.
