Its a pretty good feature in other games, such as the Age of series, and I think Warcraft (altho im not sure). It adds a bit of randomness, yes, but it prevents people whoring the same, ovwepowered civ for the same overpowered map/unit, and would help in those ladder games if any ever ends up existing.

The differences in gameplay between the factions can be very different and maybe/maybe not balanced properly. If there is ever a ladder built into RTW (which I do not hope) I dont see how random factions can improve it as you might lose just because you got a crappy faction.

Time and effort should be spent on finding the correct florin level for MP as well as right costs for units to make sure its more balanced so we dont see the same few factions/units.

How about random maps? Those steppe maps are quite boring...

i like the idea, if you dont like random you dont have to do it, but it would be nice to use sometimes. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif

Yes some random map feature in RTW would be nice. But you can always pick some of the other maps that already are in the game instead of steppe. FlatinlandsXX are nice maps while some other maps might not be the best.

And do not forget the mappack that are filled with great maps made by several people.

One feature I dream of is the ability to download a map from a host when joining his game. A map is not that big a file (40-80 KB and would be around same size for RTW?) and it should not be that difficult to do for RTW.

Indeed, such a feature absolutely NEEDS to be included. In Starcraft, a game from 1998, they have this, and it keeps the online community alive.

Same as Wolfenstein, enemy territory. There'd be problems with viruses and such I suppose, but only if you don't really know the person. In which case I suppose its best not to join.

It works fine in Age of Kings and Age Of Mythology. The game engine constructs the maps, so I believe any tampering at all with the map file would make the file invalid or somesuch.

Aelwyn, your damned Hungarians won't beat me again like you did last night ;)

Meh, I wouldnt be to crazy about that idea. besides if they make the game right there wont be any single empire w\ extrodnary power.

I have an idea for MP. Back in original Shogun, you were able to select your own standard for the general. I think this ought to be added for RTW and enhanced somewhat. Since the general might be a whole different model or skin amongst the unit, it would be nice to have some choices on what your general will look like and what kind of standard he will hold. I'd enjoy that. Personalization always makes things more fun.

Yes.

Many spends hours designing maps and mods. But it is really difficult to get people to use them. It would be really helpfull that maps (random or not) are dled from the host, and the same option for mods / unit stats would also be very helpfull.

The current system is very rigid.

Well one problem with mods is that is can be anything from a few txt files to a total conversion and that means a few 100 kb to a few 100 mb heh.

If its really true that we can play historical battles online then I would really love to able to download such battles from the host. They are very small files and would take no time.

If CA really wants to spend a bit more time on MP then being able to download maps/battles from the host would be the primary features that I would consider most important.

I know both can be downloaded from sites and therefore at first doesnt seem like important features but experience shows that people unfortunately are lazy.

The map editor is a great feature and we have several mappers out there who spend lots of time making great maps but its a bit pointless when people dont download them. And the same thing would happen with the historical battles.

Well, this would be good. Unfortunately, CBR is right about the map pack. But many maps, even if great, I think that are made, maybe uncounsciounsely, for a specific tactic. Once you grasped it's "spirit", you roll over the inexperienced.
