I don't play SP much, so I've never really had a strong, experienced emissary unit. I was wondering what kind of advantages a high-valour emissary gives you. High valour can improve an emissary's defence against assassins, but can it improve other things, like bribing and negotiating skills? What kind of experiences have you guys had with strong emissaries?

High level emissaries is alot better on bribing atleast. I haven't seen them better on anything else, but I haven't tried that much.

I think they have a slightly higher chance of getting their treaty accepted, but you can't be certain the other guy will agree though.
The main advantage of a higher valour Emissary is that he will be less prone to successful assassination.
I'm not sure but i think a higher valour emissary has to pay less to successfully bribe the same army, but i have never managed to get an emmisarry above 2 valour, they always get assasinated by 2..

It seem to me no matter how high the valour they always disappear after a few turns anyway. Once even several nine star assassin I created for fun were gone in only a few moves http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

I tried a little test today, quite by accident. I had 3 Emisarries, one each at V0,V2 and V4. I am playing as the Byzantines/Early/Expert/MedMod. I sent all three to Croatia to ask for alliance with Hungary. I did this after my V0 got rejected and I wanted to get that alliance so I could target the Turks. At the end of the turn I got the same rejection parchment twice and then an acceptance parchment that I had never seen before, saying that their vengence for breaking alliances is legendary for how gruesome it is. I like that parchment better than the others.
My V4 Emissary was now V5.
Slightly later I tried to bribe rebels in Serbia with the V0 and V2 Emissaries. The V0 gave me a cost of 1661 Fl and the V2 game me a cost of 1444 Fl.
This is just today and I haven't tested it fully in any other games, but I remembered this thread and wrote down the numbers. Year was 1109 and 1111 so before any Assassins.
