View Full Version : What happens if your monarch won't breed?

I'm playing an early/egypt/hard campaign. I have VI and all the latest patches.

I got a new monarch about 24 years old, but no heirs in the pipeline. No problem, thought I. He got married quickly and has time to breed.

Now it is 38 years later and not a single offspring.

Now I am faced with imminent loss and cannot do anything about it. I've tried to reload from a 12 turn old save game, but he still won't produce an heir. It's very frustrating

Any ideas what is going on? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-furious3.gif

Welcome to the .org Drewman http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

If things get bad you can always use the .unfreeze. command to produce an heir at the end of the turn. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-book2.gif

Welcome to the forums, Drewman http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

As for your question, I've never had any problems whenever I play Muslim factions. My Sultans and Khalifas seem to get heirs easely Maybe it's because of the harem http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-wink2.gif

I had problems with the catholic factions, though. I lost a game with the English, because of lack of heirs. But, generally, if you marry them while they are Princes you shouldn't have any trouble.

So, I'm afraid I can't really help you... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-no.gif

I rather like this problem. It gives that element of surprise and risk. Not much is certain in life, and this aspect of MTW shows it beautifully.

Don't you enjoy the sense of relief you get when you do get an heir ?

Hi Drewman,

sounds like you're screwed, especially if don't like using cheats. All I do is hope http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wacko.gif great help I know, but other factions always seem unwilling to give up their princesses(understandable really).

It does make the game slightly more enjoyable I agree, but it isn't half annoying when your plans for domination are scuppered by such a minor thing (thats why I like playing as HRE http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif )

That should not be a problem. Your heirs are all listed in the crown icon and every general of royal blood has a crown on his left side (your right). Simply don't marry your girls to their uncles, cousins and/or brothers and you'll keep your house clear of hunchbacked 13 toed cretins. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Other than that, you can marry anyone to anyone else.

I believe if you break alliance with the faction that has princesses, its monarch is much more willing to consent to the marriage proposal in hope of regaining your friendship. I always do this to make sure my two immediate heirs get married as soon as possible. You can never go wrong with resorting to blackmail to get what you want, even if it's a daughter-in-law. ~:P

I've also found that muslim factions breed like crazy. I once tried to assassinate the Almohad Kalifah because his faction got a little too powerful and too aggressive. I found no less than eight heirs waiting to succeed him. Needless to say, all my assassins died before I can complete my objective.

Welcome Drewman. Life if full of happiness and disappointment. The only proper thing to do is the Fertility Dance at the end of every turn.

I see this is not a good time (or year) to mention I'm a Penn State grad...

Last note: Columbus has to be the most underrated city in the US. It is amazing what all is in Columbus.

Well, if worst comes to worst, and the Sultan has a narrow urethra and just can't breed....well, I'd engineer a civil war.

viagra only helps with flacidity not constrictions in the urethra.

Seriously though use unfreeze, no dishonour if you are almost forty and still dont have an heir. Not your fault the king is more interested in pages and the queen to ugly to have an affair
