View Full Version : Speed Slider
I discovered this tool some 6 months after playing and it has helped me a alot.
Instead of waiting for the time to elapse, I use the slider to finish the battle quickly.
You can also hit Ctrl T to toggle between normal speed and 100% speed (or Benny Hill speed, for the Brits)

Yeah its very handy was in STW aswell. I often make mistakes by leaving it on to long or I get distracted & when I come back/realise whats happened its to late my armies routed off the field http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
I Find that it is most useful when you are attacking someone and marching towards their lines. It's sucks sometimes when something bad happens when it's on fast though cuz you can't react in time and sometimes something really bad happens like an ambush that suddenly kills your general http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-oops.gif
If it wasn't for the speed control, I probably wouldn't like this game as much as I do. Waiting for slow foot knights to walk across half a map just to begin battle would wear on me quickly.

I use it very often, cant see my self not usung it heh..i seem to be in hurry so its usefull though sometimes it has backfired http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I only toggle between 0 and 100% using Ctl + T. Main times are waiting for the enemy to attack you when you've positioned yourself on the top of a hill near the back of the map. Getting to the enemy quicker when attacking. Just finish the battle when I'm chasing down the last routing people and when bombarding castles etc.
I had one game in STW, I was hopelessly outnumbered but thought I'd see what the terrain, weather etc. was like for the battle. It was foggy (very foggy) so I hid my one unit in a small clump of trees in a corner of the battle field and the enemy never found me :D that would have been a VERY boring battle had not Ctl + T been around

It´s a great timesaver since some battles can drag into 4-5 hrs. I also use it when marching to a designated area on the battlefield.
Crtl-T allows me to go to bed at 3am as opposed to 6am http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

I always avoid the 4/5 hour battles by having the battle timer on. I should try without one of these days...

Who uses the slider as a slider, rather than just using Ctr+T? I can't see a reason for actually dragging the thing.
I didn't know about CTRL-T so I used it as a slider.
I generally have it around 50% when marching into position, I got 1 too many surprises at 100% to leave it there other than when one army is completely routed.
I usually fight at around 10-15% on offense, depending on the relative strength of my army much stronger = faster, and sometimes at 25% on defense, usually when the AI decides to camp just in front of my lines and become target practice.

Issue orders and often Ctrl+T until the units approach each other; I also speed up when I got a dead sure outcome, i.e. my cav is chasing down some routing foot soldiers.
I didn't know about ctrl t but I wont use it because I use slider style.
For assaults about 60% is useful for skipping the siege engine reload times but gives time to react as needed.
100% for marching but often sliding down as the target is approached.
My friend I was amazed to see runs it at about 30% all the time http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-confused.gif

I usually rely on the slider to do it....but once when i was fighting a battle..went away came back and found that my units were just about to b attacked......thisi s where Crtl-T saved my life....
Very useful in bridge battles as well. I go to 100% until my missle units are empty.

Actually, I saw quite a bit of Benny Hill growing up here in the states as well. God bless public television.

I always play and issue commands in normal speed. i use The Ctrl-T speed max when marching into position, chasing fleeing enemies and waiting for new enemies to come onto the field. Semtimes I use it to speed up long battles to, but I still never issue commands in anything but normal speed.
Hi,
Use Ctrl+T to toggle when marching or finishing off the remains of a routing army. Got into trouble with it last night when marching a small force towards El Cid's small force...left it on just a fraction too long...DAMN those Jinettes don't half move fast at 100% http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-blush.gif
Cheers.

I use it as a slider. I don't like using the keyboard so I use the mouse as much as possible.

Im surpised nobodies said it was cheating yet.
Cheating in favor of the AI maybe. It can think that fast but I can't. Although I have played entire battles out at 50% to 100% either because I got involved and forgot to change it back or I was suddenly winning big time and just left it fast to finish the fight sooner. I often do this if I greatly outman the AI. I just tell all my troops to attack and let it go. I particularly enjoy watching berserkers chase routers around the map slaughtering everything in their path as they go. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif

I mainly use it when the army i'm facing is running from the field because i can't be bothered to wait for them. Only very occaisionaly will do it in a seige attack.
I use it (100%)during seige attacks untill my cats are spent and then turn it back down for the assault.
Sometimes. While I prefer to keep it plain and simple (in English, I count on my patience) I sometimes give it a go, most likely when there's a long march to the enemy positions (and if they happen to be rebel-scum, it's a long long race before they're content with their position, curse them).
However, it's not THAT unordinary if I make a quick trip there and back again (in kitchen) just for noticing that my mighty braves are running away from the fields of glory a tail between their legs. That AI really is clever, it truly pays attention to my presence, let it be in the game or in the real life.
