I had perfectly logical reasons for specifying a female advisor for Rome: Total War, mostly to do with the UI being distinct from what's happening in the game.

All the characters in the game are (well, so far) men. By and large, this is fair enough because barring one or two exceptional cases (Livia, Boudicca) all the 'major players' in the ancient world were blokes too.

Therefore, the discontinuity of having a woman appear with a useful message would draw attention to the fact that here was something that could be useful to you.
