View Full Version : Modding turn duration relative to troop movement
I realise that the logistics of troop movement in medieval europe aren't what they are today...but if I wanted to catch the ferry from Dover and holiday overland in southern Italy it could take 7+ years in Total War world.( I estimated 7+ rather than opening MTW and actually counting the regions and Yes I know Medieval Europeans didn't take package holidays to Sorrento) But even if a man only travelled 5 miles a day he'd get there in about 18 months (ish) and we know that we can easily cover ten miles a day, mounted troops more. Didn't Genghis Khans pony express cover 200 miles plus in a day (yes i Know they had many horses waiting on route...but...) OK I'm waffling on, my question...can anything be done. Is it possible to reintroduce/mod in, the STW seasons or to divide years into smaller portion, Or alternatively increase troop/unit movement.
Thanks for any advice,
The Nomad.

I believe Nomad is refering to the movement on the strategic map, not the battle map. Modding that would be just as impossible as modding the season-turns.
But never fear, in RTW there will be two turns per year and no cumbersome provinces. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

Sorry, saw my mistake. If your talking about ships I Belive it is possible, Land units, no ( at least I think so http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-jester.gif )

Ship movement is determined as part of an entry in a single column which covers all of the stats for a boat. Land units don't have a similar stat to modify.

Its to bad you cant change land movement becuase I really agree with the original poster. Riding across france doesnt take 5 years, nor did it take 5 years during the 14th century.
Bummer,
Kind of hoping to get round that one. Just have to relly on Naval transport to plug the reality gap, or exchange years for turns as has been modded already.
Catch you later,

p.s Hi there Ludens nice to be made welcome.
