Is there any way to increase the valor of your bishops and cardinals? Or other muslim and orthodox religious agents? Inquisitors burn people and gain valor, assassins kill, spies frame and cause revolts, emissaries make alliances, but how can I raise a valor of a bishop or a cardinal? I did try to send them to make alliances, but somehow it never worked out for me, and they got rejected, even from high pious rulers, so I cannot confirm or deny that this feature works.

They gain valor by negotiating treaties. Unfortunately, there is no province that gives a valor bonus when they are trained (Castille is supposed to give Inquisitors a valor bonus, but it didn't work when I tried it in MTW).

When I take a province the one of first things I do is bring in a spy and a Bishop/Priest/Alim to start the people converting to my religion. Seems like a Bishop should get a valor increase for a doing this effectively (e.g., a star if the percentage of Catholics goes up 25% or something over the duration of his stay).

I agree. By the way, Bernard of Clairvaux starts at 3 for France.

I have dozens and dozens of bishops, some of them worked in muslim provinces, building up the Catholic religion from zero to 100 %, and I don't have a single bishop with a valor higher than nothing.

Some bishops are historical heroes so they start with a few stars, btw ichi the first Inquisitor you build in castile will get 5 stars the rest come out with 2, Spanish was the last faction i played and i remember seeing that.

True, you can train up inquisitors to be frightful killing machines with high valor, but we are talking about bishops and cardinals. And Spanish inquisition is (in)famous for reason, greetings from Castile.

And as for heroes, yes, there are some bishops and cardinals with high valor, I suppose, never paid much attention to those, but how can I raise the valor of my "normal" bishops and cardinals? I've been sending them to negotiate alliances et cetera, but they just don't have a hand for it.

The English get Thomas Beckett who's a 3 star Bishop IIRC.

Just try more, I have had no problems with bishops negotiating treaties. In STW, IIRC, a failed assassination attempt would raise the valour of the attacked piece, in MTW that just works for generals through getting a v&v.

(moving those pieces around like crazy)

I am trying, but it doesn't work. Yet. But I am patient.

Honestly, I find it cheesy that they can't raise their valor by simply converting people and preaching. "sighs" Oh, well, that’s life…

Create a new building or mod the existing one's to give more stars to your agents. Doesnt a cardinal start higher I beleive because of the cathedral. Failing that you could create some new historical heroes of bishop's etc or just use them to get a treaty from the other factions.

No. Zero valor.
