Gamespy.com (http://www.gamespy.com/preview2004/index21.shtml)
Pertinent part:
We debated if Rome: Total War could even make our list for the Most Wanted Games of 2004. There's no clear indication it'll be out this year, possibly slipping to 2005... and that would devastate us.
Read this and cursed loudly from my desk at work. As if my co-workers didn't already think me crazy, now they've documented me calling down hellfire and damnation upon (allegedly) slow programmers.
I think I'll go cry for a while... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

I highly doubt it will be delayed again. They've made it quite clear why it's been delayed- They want to work out all possible bugs, polish the gameplay, improve the AI, and drive us nuts. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
Yup, I'll only just last till autumn. Any longer and I'll have to Sepuka

but most of all http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif
Though it would give me more time to work on my toenail collection.
Now if I could just remember to trim mine I can begin.

Well....i ll actually be happy if this is true...i wont have a PC that can play RTW at least until 2005 :D
Bought a Pent IV 3GHz in August last year...just incase we got RTW for Christmas 2003. It better not be too slow by the time RTW comes out ...or .... *%&$#@

I think your ram and graphicscard is more important then the 3ghz http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif j/k your processor will be fine for the game http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
I doubt it will be delayed into 2005, the game doesnt seem to be in such early progress to need so long to get released anyway.
I would prefer a better source than Gamespy. IIRC they also talked about patch for Call of Duty a long time ago and the patch is still not out http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

Actually, it's seppuku.
As to the matter, lets hope CA outlasts Rome, or we won't have a game at all.

MikeB. (Capt'n Fishpants here) posted over at the .COM that R:TW was ON Schedule for a Fall 2004 release.
End of story.

Screw Gamespy Unless they quote an Activision or CA representative take anything they print with a grain of salt.
For as long as I've been a member of the Org the developers have been alarmingly straightforward with us (within legal limits of course). They told us the target date was Fall 2004 and that the game was delayed not because it wasn't ready for a 1st Quarter 2004 release but because Activision deemed it too 'unfriendly' for the average non-strategy gamer. More time was needed to incorporate powerful tutorials and the like. What reason would CA have for lying to us? It's not as if we're being spoon fed PR spin from some suit in Activision's marketing dept. In the Org forums members interact with the guys at CA on regular basis. Barring our inability to see an alpha build of RTW in action behind closed door, invite only exhibitions at trade shows or get our grubby hands on press-only demos we have more direct contact with the development team than any journalist in the industry. So who should you believe? Gamespy or the guys at CA?

Reply Oh Please...

Stop, please. Stop this speculating
The release date hasn't changed since the last time this topic was raised here. It's still going to be Autumn (Fall) 2004. As has been pointed out many times, yes, this is a 'long time' in the future - except that it isn't, not really. Not with the stuff we're putting into the game.
The game isn't going to slip because we've allowed time to do things properly. Assorted release dates have been bandied about as 'true', but they have all ben the product of wishful thinking, I'm afraid.
I wonder if they are putting in some nice pixelshaders etc?
Those models would look much better with shiny ps2 armour on them...
I like that they aren't just rushing it out as soon as its close to playable.
It sounds like R:TW will be very refined like Shogun was & Medieval initially wasn't & thats a very good thing http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-yes.gif

I believe that would alienate people with cards that don't support pixel shaders...like those Gf4 MX users that can't play Deus EX IW due to it requiring PS support.

Gamespy is full of BS.
I second that alman. Gamespy ARE full of it. Majorly. As I said elsewhere, any game that can honestly say Donkey Kong was a bad game deserves our pity and our disdain
GAH
Vanya sez... extra time spent working in proper inflexions of "GAH" into the Roman and barbarian vocabularies for use in the game.
Nothing worse than a "GAH" that comes out like a "DOH"

All I want to know is what the specs. will be for it to REALLY run, not just the choppy screen, lousy colors/definition specs.
Just got a new PIV, 2.5Ghz, machine able to run the latest x pack for MOHAA. Hope that's enough for RTW.
Far more than enough. its looking like 800mhz-1ghz as min spec with a 32bit Graphics card (GeForce 2/Radeon 7000 or better is likely), with 256mb Ram.
That should be in reach of most pc's sold for the last 2 years, and PC parts are lovely and cheap. You could build an AMD xp2600+ system for under £500 off the shelf with enough power to run every game on release. Well, it might struggle with Gothic 2 but its a special case. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-wall.gif

Might I add for anyone who played STW/MI the delays for MI even after it was "on target for release date"

Devs. state - categorically - it will be out this fall (which does end on 12/21 BTW - http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif )
Anyway - topic beaten to death weeks ago.
Move along please, there is nothing to see here.

Haven't CA been good at keeping deadlines before?
Shogun was relatively on time 4 years ago.. Medieval was only 1-2 months off. I believe RTW is superbly coordinated thanks to good leadership, and they didn't even bother to give a deadline until they were sure. Remember how long they refrained from stating a release date? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-computer.gif
Bah, ignore Gh3yspy http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-party2.gif

MTW was not off by a month, in fact I believe they shipped early (they said August 23rd I believe, and it came on August 21st).

All i know is that from Time comanders we know the game is finished to the point of a Alpha at least.
they have till Christmas to stabalize the code and finish the fluff and models to their final levels.
and i dont imagine the specs will be too high.
pshhh, gamespy is god, i prefer them over ign/gamespot/avault/etc.
i also like wargamer and strategy informer :)
