Yes folks, its a thread about his holiness that doesn't rant about him http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif I've finally started by long promised HRE 2.01 campaign, and for no reason whatsoever, for about 7 straight turns, he gave me 1000 florins http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

Sure helped with building my early infrastructure, and I didn't even mind too much when I had to give 1200 of it back to pay for my crusade to Tripoli http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-smile.gif

Actually, that's how the HRE emperors envisioned the papacy to work like, the Pope being put into office by the emperor and serving him, that's why it's called Holy Roman. However, the Pope had his own plans and largely succeeded in realising them. :)

My deepest concerns for what those priests did to you when you were a little boy http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I still hate the Pope, but that has happened to me before and almost made me change my thinking towards the Big man. Almost. My 10th year in the French attacked and I got excommed for defending myself. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-furious3.gif
Damn Pope

love the pope? have you been drinking? no? maybe you should consider it. also playing HRE 2.01 early, have been crusading successfully, being nice to other catholics (even after they attack me) and not a dime, he's even making me pay to do crusades. then he sends an inquisitor after my guys. his time is running short, need rome and tuscany for GA goals.

*disclaimer*

I only love him in this particular game :) IRL it would be fair to say that this protestant doesn't hold the office of the papacy in high regard......

Anyway, the love fest continued when I rescues the besieged pope from his castle in the papal states when he was one year away from starving to death.... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-toff.gif

And those nice Italians had taken Rome off him, so I could add it to my HRE GA score with having to attack the papacy http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

Still, I'm sure that he'll do the dirty on me at some point in the next 300 years http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-anxious.gif

Ack, I always hate the Pope. I had just finished building a Crusade to send against the Almos (I am the Italians) when the French crusaded into one of the Almos' last provinces and sent them in to minor faction land by killing their king. So, I let the Crusade Cross sit in Genoa, as the Byz were too powerful for me to take on right now. However, the English get excommunicated the next turn and the Pope asks for a Crusade against the English. So, I immediately oblige and drop my cross in to English-controlled Aquitine, since I already controlled Navarre, Toulouse and Aragon. I was asked for 2250 florins to get permission. Ack

So, naturally I am laying siege to the keep in Aquitine and either the Pope or the English king die off, and I immediately get warned to cease hostilities within 2 years and not attack for 10.

I hate the Pope.
