Nowake doesn't understand you people, is it sloth that drives you to make these nonsense threads, or is it that you want to draw some attention. If you are unable to find a thread, pm someone who's part of EB, we all have it on our sig.

But, anyway Europa Barbarorum (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=3;t=14218;st=0)

Europa Barbarorum is a collection of people who think that CA's historical depiction of the Barbarians in the upcoming Rome Total War needs to be changed to be more historically accurate...

We are basically driving towards getting CA to represent the Celts as more than mindless axe-murderers. (which they certainly were not, as Spears and Swords were often the mainstay weapon)

In many cases their knowledge and sophistication was equal to that of their Civilised counterparts even though they didn't choose to wear armour...

Visit the thread in the Monestary to find out more.

Thanks for the info. And no it isn't sloth that drove me to make this topic. I tried searching on different search engines for Europa Barbarorum and just got a bunch of foreign sites popping up. I didn't even think of pm'ing a member.

Not to worry The_678. I asked the very same question in the Tavern last week. Unfortunately I hardly ever have the time to go into the Monastery (or Colosseum), so I didn't see the topic there. Also, I figured (rightly) that I wasn't the only one with the question.

I did then read some of that topic after I was pointed there, but I still have a question perhaps prompted by my lack of attention to information about RTW (trying to avoid the hype). There is the impressive and massive effort made by the Europa Barbarorum to correct CA's portrayal of barbarians in RTW - the game that is perhaps 6 months away from release. How do you know their portrayal is incorrect? Also, without seeing what the game looks like now, how do you propose CA is to implement your project (if it isn't already too late)? Isn't this a bit like making cockpit seat design suggestions to NASA based solely on watching a few Shuttle launches? By that I don't mean to sound like I'm putting down the effort, I'm just trying to learn what prompted this whole effort. What have you seen or read that led you to your conclusion. The particular topic in the Monastery sounds as if the evidence for incorrect portrayal of barbarians is to be found elsewhere and the topic is just a rallying point for the effort. Thanks for any information you provide.

I don't know, but my guess is that their proof is from the trailers and unit description on totalwar.com http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

And from the battles seen on Time Commanders. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

The thread in the monastery is indeed the rallying point. I believe the campaign was started by two threads in the Colosseum:
1) The Celts (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=19;t=14057) by PSYCHO
2) From Solduri to Hundredmen (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=19;t=11441) by Stephan the Berserker.

The Barbarian unit described on the .com are bluntly half-naked, blood-crazed aye. Now, I have nothing against half-naked, blood-crazed axe murderers as long as they stay out of my bedroom, but Rome's Barbarians were far from that. There are at least three major distinct 'barbarian' cultures in the time frame of Rome: Total War, but CA seems to ignore this, throwing them all on the generic axe murderers heap. So we are not talking about a little historical slip, but about gross carelessness. Or so it seems.

Perhaps it is too late to do something about that, and there is a chance that the thread in the monastery will drown in good intentions, but be unable to get anything consistent out of it. I know that progress has been made, but it still does not resemble the kind of ordered information we will need to be taken seriously. I hope someone will manage to organize it.
