Hi all,

Just wondering how I can bring El Cid on board. Playing as Spanish I tried to bribe him in turn 1, he refused, tried again, refused again. So out of spite I invaded Valencia next turn and chopped him into little pieces. A little bit spiteful perhaps, but hey, he rejected me So anyway I've got Valencia, and no-one can have El Cid, which I suppose is not too bad a state of affairs.

Where was I? Oh yes, my question.

Is there any other way I could have brought El Cid onto my team, once the bribe fails?

Cheers.

Hi RJV,

i had the same problem as Aragonese/xpert/early.
In the thread "Help with the Aragonese" someone
told me it would be better to attempt bribing after turn 3?
Which difficulty are you playing? It may also depend on the level. Anyway I reloaded several times to see if it's possible and failed every time.

Hi,

Playing on Hard. Was just interested to know if there were any non-bribery methods of gaining the services of rebel generals. Don't know what V&Vs he had before the bribe (the two offers were made in the same turn BTW, when your guy says the target wants more), but afterwards he had a +50% to Bribery Cost, so I figured I had no chance after that. Tis a shame he's dead, but he put up a good fight

You can only get him through bribes, in VI´patch you cant get him the first turn he costs 5600+, you have to wait 3/4 turns usualy hes price tag drops to 3300+ so its easier you can save and reload if you realy realy want him heh. This is in expert difficulty..hes very usefull though http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

Bribery is the only way that I know of to get El Cid. I did that once as the Almos in Early and he ended up being Master of the King's Horse (or something like that)and got all the way up to 9 stars with Expert Attacker in a game that I won fairly quickly.

if you kill off bits of his army yourself that will help make him cheaper... extremely hard to do this well without killing him in the same battle though

I have bribed El cid with Aragonese/xpert/early but in turn 6 or 7, I have had to stop building armies/buildings during these turns to earn enough cash.
