Hi folks,

I have a question about the VI addon for MTW. I see from reading this forum that the VI version is more moddable with regards to editting heroes and changing stats for kings n stuff. And it has more units. What I'd love to know is that if I go out and buy VI for MTW, will I be able to edit stats for my Kings and stuff in the original MTW?? I guess what I'm asking is does VI integrate with and update MTW or is it a totally seperate entity once installed??

Thanks folks

What I want to do, ultimately, is use my mod which I'm working on for MTW (using the MTW Europe map) and use the features such as heroes and stuff.

Hi, maestro

VI will update MTW. It's like a big patch. And you'll be able to mod the stats of your kings, heroes, etc. in your main MTW part.

But you'll have to make some changes in your mod to play it in MTW:VI. Because there are some differences between MTW and MTW:VI modding engine. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-builder.gif

And I think that not getting VI is not an option: the game simple takes on a new face with the Viking campaign (although som epople say it is overrated and too short) but IMHO it is a well spent $20 or so...

Thanks for the speedy responses guys http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

I was going to buy it a while back but it seams that in the UK you can only buy the Battle Pack now which includes MTW AND VI in one pack for £25.

As I already own MTW I wanted to only get the VI pack, but I can't. Since it's such a big upgrade I'm gonna get it anyway and give my spare copy of MTW away to a friend innit http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif

Maybe look for a used copy on Ebay? I myself got few games from UK, like Enigma, due to quicker release dates or better deals, so maybe you can find someone willing to ship you a copy from US?

I've been to PC WOrld and bought the pack. So I guess I now own two copies of MTW. Sooo.... who do I like the most today?

There was a recent post about someone who cracked his CD and needed a copy. Maybe you guys can hook up?

Guys

I'm still playing the Historic Campaigns etc, so that I can get used to the whole MTW experience... and so that I can get a bit better before you lot whip me in multi-player.

I was wondering... at this early stage, before I've even tried a campaign, is it worth me getting VI? Or should I play out MTW and then get VI to rekindle my interest; although by then RTW might be out

Maestro, how do you like VI?

Cheers for the heads up.

I should say, VI does not make a RADICAL change to the game as a whole. While it is more moddable, its not as if it shiops with modding tools or an interface to change kings stats etc.

The two main changes are: the Viking campaign itself, which is smaller in scope and thus more easily completable, and the addition of further unit types in the main campaign, which do add a lot, IMO, to the fun of the game. Makes it more variable and local, less bland, which is quite important with such a big map to conquer.

Vi is very much worth getting. The new campaign is fun, and the general streamlining and ironing out of bugs makes it worth your 15 quid any day of the week. Then download the 2.01 patch from the official website.

Well so far I'm really glad I bought it, even if I did have to fork out for another copy of MTW at the same time. I find the fact that it's more moddable is a good enough reason for me, but the introduction of new troops, king lists, heroes and all the other goodies carried over from the Viking Campaign makes it an absolute must-buy. Anyone who hasn't got it installed should get it I've liked that addons soo much that i've quit the Viking campaing half way through and I'm having another go at Early - Expert - Italian to see how it goes on. It's nice to have a report of V&Vs at the end of each turn too.

And TonkaToys.... I would definitely get the VI addon now rather than later. Any games you play in the original MTW will be lost, but you can start the exact same campaing again with the added features. And I wouldn't expect to get RTW anytime soon before Christmas. Games as big as this are always delayed. HalfLife 2 anyone??? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/handball.gif

The new V+V list at the end of turns is very useful indeed, as is the new deployment screen. You might want to get the patch overwise you will prob have the 56 year bug.

Ahhhh... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/idea.gif I haven't tried the campaigns yet, so V+V haven't factored for me yet.

There is so much to find in this game, but thanks to all for recommending VI, I'll get it before I start the campaigns.

I just got VI and it is totally worth it, apart from giving you a new campaign(sp?) map, you get new units for factions, and 3 new playable factions. (unless you have already modded the orig) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

And the Danes kick ass in early now due to the influx of viking units http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif

OK I'm sold... I work with a Dane and I know she kicks some serious bottom.

Anyone tried ebay for this sort of stuff; how safe is it? says the guy that has just had a new credit card thanks to some identity theft... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif ...although why anyone would want to be me is a mystery

Buying online works for me - I use my CC almost exclusively on Ebay, Amazon and NewEgg. No problems so far :)

Thanks m8, I haven't had a problem with Amazon or other internet places before but this latest incident spooked me.

Plus the copy of VI on ebay that is currently £1.30 says I'll only receive the software after the seller has cashed my cheque Hello... he is selling online, but expects payment via snail mail.
