I think CA should implament a battle.net style system where our wins and losses are saved, and maybe even get a cool looking icon next to our names to indicate rank.

WHat do you think?

You forgot the 'Gah' option.

I think it should go the same direction as games like Age of Kings and Warcraft 3, allowing you to play both rated and non-rated games. That way, theres something for everyone

Personally I don't want rankings systems, lists or any such nonsense. It encourages cheating and the last thing I want is some uppity teenage geek with low confidence spending all his goddamn free time figuring out a way to hack the netcode so he can either delight in being a vandal or so he can feel like a godly geek among his peers. Real life is full of a$$holes, I don't need to deal with another one when I'm playing one of my favorite games online...

However, if there must be a ranking system then this is the best way to go.

That's how it was in Shogun with the Competitive/freindly battles. I'd assume they would use that method again.

i say nay.

why must there be a ranking system in the 1st place?
isnt the mp part of the game "fun" as it is? its just another hassle and as spino said, some geek will just play the game to be on top of the others, they will exploit the best tactics and then everyone will do the same tactic.

edit:
No I suck, and I don't want others to see that
-obviously this is a biased poll.

There is no need for a ranking system imho.

There really needs to be a 'Gah' option...

I voted no because like others here have mentioned it can make the game very ugly. People concentrate on cheating and getting there rank up instead of just having fun. I remember in STW there were Vets who invited me as a newb to competitive games. Me as a newb didnt always check what kinda game it was. Or they would say I'll teach you how to play better come into my game. They would beat you a few times take some points and then adios.

Some people will get there rank high just because they wont play any good players and will stay playing newbs and in doing so never testing or expanding there skill.

Also Amp showed us how easy it is to find holes in the ranking system. IMHO it is fine as it is. Tournaments are good and we all know who the experienced and good players are. Good players seek each other out now so they can have good games.

I also agree that the options given are biased. I chose no but I Do Not Suck. Maker of poll should seriously consider revising.

I'd rather enjoy some mp stats. It never bothered me in Shogun. Something like in Warcraft III would be perfect. THey match you with the closest in rank. Not so hard, huh? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

i dont like ranking systems, they encourage foul play, if you lay off the rankings, you will find less competitvness, and more enjoyability

If people wouldn't have the tendency to attach their self-worth to their ranking or win-loss record, the stats could be fun. Alas, that is not the real world though. I agree with the others, it just gives people more incentive to engage in unsavory activities to enhance their own self-esteem. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-tiny.gif ... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-sneaky.gif ... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-devil.gif ... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-crowngrin.gif

I'd say this would be pretty cool, but it should have the option of closing ur wins/losses so people couldn't jude you in you wanted . There could also be a server that wants people who havbe won 20+ games to come in, no n00bs. It could come in handy then. I wouldn't mind, I plan on winnnig most of my games anyways.

Some system that sends raw data to a website of choice (this could be a central server for current MP games, but the option to specify can be of use for MP campaign games), a script to catch it there and proces the results has merits.

But there should be the option to play comp and friendly.
Gamers can build and admin their league system.

I Remember the honour system in STW, that was pretty cool. if they implemented something like that would be ok, with 1 difference. Have experience catagories maybe. so the more you win the more honour(or wotever) you get but ppl in a higher bracket cant play ppl in a lower bracket in comp games. i dunno probably nonsense but just a thought. Thanks for listening :)

That would be nonsense

The ones not willing to show their stats would be the weak.

i seem to recall a lot of nonsense about higher 'honour' players bitching when they played some one who wasn't close enough to themn in stature, so they lost honour points whether they won or not. Especially if they didn't bother to check until after they'd played.

It's nice ot have some ratinbg system i think. If nothing else it was fun to use what looked like a noob name to give a good pasting to those who trying to suckhonour points of new players, more often than not camping on a hill in the snow then claiming it was a competitive game so anything goes.

I think your last words refer to a certain situation. Could you be more specific, I'm quite curious http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-toff.gif

No thanks,

And yes, I suck. I am weak. No question.

I would not support a rated/ non rated system either... At some point there were a ladder in place even for MTW. I can understand why people thought it was a good idea, but the indirect result was; it was much harder to find a good non competitive teamgame.

So, a system with both rated and non rated games is not going to make me happy...

Louis,
