View Full Version : Is this possible?

Tonight I had a (rare) flash of brilliance http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-jester.gif I was always annoyed by the fact that Syria doesnt show on the province parchment that it gives bonus to assassins (and this also goes for all other double bonus provinces). So I asked myself if it were possible to add a scroll arrow similar to what you see when you click on a general unit and it shows the arrow for Vices and Virtues.

A. If it is possible to implement this kind of scrolling to the province parchment sheet, then one can give multiple bonuses to provinces without a need for an extensive documentation for it as you would be able to see the bonuses in-game.

B. If it is not possbile to implement scrolling, then is it possible to alter the text "Historically, this region was famous for BLAH, units of this type trained here gain a +1 valour bonus" and replace it with something much smaller that (hopefully) fits in one line on the parchment. For example a neutral phrase like "+1 valour bonus to ..." would suffice.

So, if its possible to do either A or B (or both) then could someone please tell me the way it could be done? And if its not possible could you please tell me the reason for it.

If this kind of question was asked before then I apologise, I didnt even know where to start a search for something like this.

Thanks in advance.
Rev

PS The goal of what I'm trying to do is to be able to see multiple unit bonuses on the province description parchment.

I would imagine B is possible, and if it is the text you'd need to change is in the "loc/eng" file. If you're trying to add valour bonusses then I don't know what you have to do, but most of the in game text is in the loc/eng file, so I'd try there.

Sorry if I'm wrong.

Yeah I know how to add valor bonuses, thats easy. but if you say that B may be possible then I guess I will do a search in loc/eng folder and search for the province bonus info there.

Thanks for the pointer.

EDIT: thrashaholic, once again thanks for the pointer. I found what I was looking for in less than 2 minutes. The required file was in Loc\Eng and it was Changes.txt

There I did a search for a word "Historically" which is a part of description of the provicne bonus and changed the entire line to "+1 valour bonus to %s." I must say I like the shorter version much more than the old three line description. Unfortunately it did not solve the problem that I wanted it to solve. Province parchment sheet still displays only one bonus even though the new description fits in one line (and so, technically, you could fit at least three valour bonus descriptions in there). http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

Is this hardcoded then or something? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-help.gif

PS Damn, modding is addictive. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-jester.gif CA should have a disclaimer on the MTW/VI box saying "WARNING: modding this game may be addictive." LOL

It looks to me that this thing is probably hardcoded (but hopefully not). Now, in the Changes.txt there is a tag of sorts related to the description of provnce bonus it was something like [unit_bonus]. I tried doing a search on it, but havent found squat.

Ive also managed to locate the province parchment bif file but I wouldnt even know where to begin to mod it. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif
Can someone tell me if its possible or not so that I can stop wasting my time if it is not possible. Please, pretty please http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-help.gif
