First post on this forum...there's something rather nice about having to go to an 'entrance' forum before posting in the others...

Anyway, back to the point, have other people here played games from KOEI's 3 kingdoms and Nobunaga's ambition series? I myself just returned from a trip to Taipei with the latest incarnations of each (3 Kingdoms 9 and Nobunaga 11(Yes, 11)), and find myself going through the battles wishing they were more like Shogun...especially for Nobunaga...sigh.

So: anyone else play these?

Awesome Game Company

I love them

Mostly strategic level strategy games having to do with various time periods and regions.

It was either Three Kingdoms, Genghis Khan, or Nobunaga's Ambition which was there first game, I can't remember...but most of their games later were basically enhancements of the first.

One of my favorites was Liberty or Death which was a strategic simulation of the American Revolution. One of my childhood friends and I had a KOEI addiction. We would play Three Kingdoms, and Uncharted Waters New Horizons, an RPG based on the age of sea exploration.

They were based on history, but they were not really historically accurate.

Another of my favorite was Pacific Theater of Operations, which allowed you to control the Navies of Japan or the U.S. during World War II.

I could go on and on...Genghis Khan was great, three campaigns the first started you out playing as Temucin (sp?) first trying to gain support of all the Mongolian factions. The next two were various time periods with a world map that included Asia into what we know as the MTW world map.

These were my favorite games in the nineties and I still play them from time to time for nostalgic reasons. You can get more information on them and the PC versions of most of these games (surprisingly the console versions, Genesis and SNES were much better versions) at The Underdogs (http://the-underdogs.org)

I've gone on to bigger and better things for my gaming fix, which of course includes the Total War series. Also Europa Universalis and Uncommon Valor (and War in the Pacific soon). I have always been waiting for a game that would emulate the enjoyment I had with New Horizons (the age of exploration RPG) but there have been no really good pirate/sailing games for the PC. I have played Sea Dogs, and Port Royale (which is fun, but gets old), I'm not even going to touch Pirates of the Caribbean.

Welcome to the .Org, I'm pretty new here too. It is a great place. They are on the eleventh Nobunaga?? I think they should release some of those games over here...I would like it...but they probably wouldn't do very well.

I've toyed with the idea of trying the Three Kingdoms, but never took the plunge (yet). I figured they must be decent games because 1) they keep making them, and 2) the price of pre-owned versions remains pretty high even for a version or two back. Maybe some day...

KOEI's 3 Kingdoms 3 would be the oldest and the longest game that I have played (and still play) and it led me to TW series.

I also have Genghis Khan 2 and Nobunaga series. The reason that I still keep my 486 with DOS and still using Win 98 in my primary PC.

I am currently thinking about a MTW mod for 3 Kingdoms period. However, I have a few difficulty that I can't solve. The one year turn would make the campaign too short (historically). Turn the Pope into the puppet Emperor. I have zero skill to make new unit graphic.

I use to play Ghengis Khan, Romance of the 3 Kingdoms and Nobunaga's I want to say Revenge? but may have been ambition, this is going way back when they were out on Nintendo system, anyway these were great games even then, I would play for hours, sadly I no longer have any of the games and have not kept up on there development , wow 11th version of Nobunaga amazing, just a testament to really good games I am going to look into them again...LOS
