I'm a shogun vet who has just moved to MTW. I haven't noticed much weather in the battles, just varying degrees of rain. I've already played through 2 SP campaigns. Where's the fog, snow, etc??

I'm not entirly sure how it is worked out. I think i read somewhere on here that you have to have 3-4 battles in the same year and one of those will be in snow. Also welcome to the forums

To explain it a little deeper, the first battle is in the spring, the second in the summer and the third in autumn, all the others take place during the winter.

Alas, the marvelous weather in STW was lost in MTW. I do miss the variety of weather in STW - it really added to the game's atmosphere. I guess to be fair, weather in MTW is complicated by the yearly turns and the wide variety of climates - from desert to sub-arctic.

With VI the first battle is in summer, the second in winter. Never had more than 2 battles in a turn. I had different types of weather. Lightly raining, heavy downpour, sunny, tunderstorms, sandstorms, blizzards,... But no fog.

I miss Shogun's weather system too.

I miss that Shogun's weather system as well. But, in M:TW I never learnt to miss it since all I hope for is a cloudless sky so I can fill that gap with my cloud of arrows (too bad they move too fast for trying to see a nice little shape in them). Really, a heart-shaped folley could be an interesting sight, at least there would a happy sight before the end of all things.

Good point about not missing it but as I recall, there seemed to be a less likely chance of missing bad weather in STW.

The fog: there was nothing quite like the anxious feeling of slowly groping around in the fog trying to find the enemy and hoping your army was not in a bad position when the enemy finally revealed itself, ghost-like, in the fog.

Thanks guys.

I think they should've kept seasons in for the VI campaign :/

Not quite on topic, but do terrain features have an effect on the battles. I don't mean the obvious ones like trees, rivers and hills, etc, but the less obvious ones like hedges, ploughed fields and roads?
I thought the hedges helped when I played the Agincourt historic battle, but since then they don't seem to have factored much.

I like the weather in MTW. I also find it makes a big difference in combat. I had a unit of enemy archers in a sandstorm fire their complete loan of ammo at my spearmen (who were standing still) and I only took one casualty.

The Weather, eg. sandstorms, rain and wind, snow and fog, makes it real.
