View Full Version : Strange revolt
MTW 1.1 / Early campaign / normal
In my current game, I'm playing as the Byzantines. Around 1095, I'm loosing Naples to the Sicilians. The remnants of my army retreat into the fort and a siege begins which would last abt 3 years. In the same time I'm loosing Khazar to a revolt (a horde of peasants and fanatics).
In the 2nd year the Sicilians have a revolt of loyalists. The army appears with a Byzantine flag and it is composed by a unit of kataphracts, a unit of trbizond archers and three units of Varangian Guard http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/jawdrop.gif
It was a gift from the Heaven, and I do not complain but let's be serious. The Varangians where the bodyguard of the Emperor and they showed up ONLY, when the Emperor was commanding the Army. How can such an elite force appear as a revolt??? I'm trying to find a logical and historical explanation on this and I find none.
Can somebody help and/or share any other experiences?? Can't this be fixed by some patch or whatever??

Its just a game Jags and its not 100% accurate, VI+patch which ive played with lately is a little better with revolts you dont get those massive high tech revolt stacks.

Ofcourse and it is a game, that's why I conquered Sicily and Malta with these Loyalists http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-devilish.gif

Hmm, I dunno - I've just had a loyalist Turkish revolt in Volhynia while beseiged, and the stack is made of Mamluk cav and Sipahi of the Port And, of course, archers and whatnot, but I think I have like 9 sipahi units and 8 mamluk cavs. I'm going to send them to the desert as they have no armour upgrades, unlike most of my units, biut they do have valour 2 it seems.

Hehehehehe, if you don't like high tech rebels, stay away from medmod. I can't count the number of purely vicious rebel armies I've seen come up.....8 Chiv. Foot Knights, 6 Knights Templar, 2 Chiv Sargeants is about average....nasty nasty stuff. Really fun to bribe if they appear in a province you can afford to lose for a turn though. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
It makes rebellions an actual problem Hehehe, fun stuff

Naples seems to be the site of strange revolts. I had held Naples for about 8-10 turns as the Turks and then had to retreat to Sicily as the Crusaders and Italians invaded Naples. As the Italians were sieging my castle in Sicily, there was a loyalist revolt in Naples with 9 Nizaris and 5 Trebuchets (units that I didn't even have the capability of producing) as well as some archers and spearmakers...Needled to say Naples was taken back :)
I had the same thing, while I was playing on easy/turcos, Polish invaded Greece, which I held and then another gift came out with 3 units = 300 highest armor upgrade of saracen infantry and 6 units of silver armor Armenian HC. These guys could took away the empire for sure. Instead they took Poland...and Hungary...and got me an alliance with HRE http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif
the strangest revolt is all spy army in Armenia and some provinces in the East. One time I have it and auto calculate, it is OK- I win. The next time I rethink and fight them, the game crash

I ended up with a loylist revolt as the French in Sicily with Byzantine soldiers (), including some Cataphracts, pretty high end infantry (including about 200 Vang Guards http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif) (Nice armour/attack) and even a complement of handcannons ( http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-surprised.gif ) after holding the place for just one year after taking it from the Italians. It may been held by the Byzantines at some point, as I was aware the Italians were duking it out hard with them over Byzantine lands, and lost out after a while, so I may have gotten a glitch where the Loyalists for Byzantines ended up with a French banner They must have liked the wine
