hey there

ive just finished playing my first ever full campaign which
i didnt manage to complete thanx only to campaign time limit, i was the english and i won 90 percent of my battles and destroyed all who opposed me, however i wasnt able complete expansion over europe because the year got to 1453 and egypt must have had more men or somthing and that was the end :( i lost that sucks ..

i dont think there was any way i could have concquered faster with enough money or troops to keep my lands happy and stop the revolts while battling my enemies and advancing economicly, i was constantly creating new buildings in my homeland and still never got to the point of using seige cannons

is there any way i can start the campaign earlier or allowit to end much later ??

there was never this limitation in shogun tw only the line of heirs would eventually run out ..

Read the Beginners and Unit Guide for tips to succeed.

It's a real art, the "Art of War".

I modded my game to start at 1000 and end at 2000. This felt like cheating. I also modified when High and Late started. Like other unbalancing cheats, This was a real mistake. I've since reverted back to the standard.

As it was only your first campaign, well done in surviving to the end. It is a real challenge.

I'm playing the HRE, one of the harder factions, as it has so many borders and opposing factions. I have got to 1328 and 95% of the map conquered only France, Denmark, Spain and the Papal States remain.

Keep at it. You will get better.

Also, you said you kept building up your provinces. Try to be sure not to build too many of the same buildings, as its kind of a waste. Try designating some provinces for spear production, some for swords, some for missle units, some for cavs, etc. It will make it much smoother and easier to not only expand and save money, but keep track of what you need and where it is coming from.

kiwit, i was wondering if u could tell me how to change the
lenght of the campaign ( start or end dates ) ?

id like to continue playing though im not bothered about the technology, it would be cool if it could just stay in the late period for ever till the map is conquered.

it seems kinda silly to me the fact that the time runs out right when its getting dramatic
i just want a final showdown with those darned egyptians :D

I've never heard anyone complain about this before. You're doing something wrong if you play from the start of early to the end of late trying the whole time for total domination and not getting it. Are you auto-deciding your battles perhaps? It does require some player ingenuity to win some key battles without incredibly large casualties (the auto-resolve function uses a lot of attrition). Less casualties equals more garrison troops and more high valor troops, which equals victory. Make sure to build your main unit-producing provinces all the way up, and build morale-upping buildings in most provinces. Use low quality troops for garrisons if they are deep inside your territory. Build trade routes to make money, and build up good farming territories. Then when you're on the frontier, use the highest quality troops you can, with armor and weapon upgrades, valor upgrades, etc., and use your best generals. Use land titles to increase command if you have a faction with crappy command usually. That should kinda cover it...above all just use strategy and tactics. Attack where it's smartest, don't use attrition if you can help it,use the right troop types.

Concur with Rowan. Do not auto-resolve. Play out the battles.

hey thanx kiwit much appreciated :)

rowan, mate im not as dumbfounded as u might think i dont think i need advice on playing the game

the only battles i auto decided were rebal armies with low volour againt my level 8 and 9 generals and i won every large battle i fought aganst any oponnent, i found the ai quite easy after a while altho it may have been on normal difficulty, i had the highest possable armour and valour upgrades for my troops and i know exactly what tropps to use in a battle which is why i didnt find it too hard on the battlefield..

in my first campaign i waited for a few years at the start and allied with the french then attacked them shortly after i had unified brittish isles , then married my princesses into the german and argonese and allied with them.
i then found it quite easy to conqour both France and Spain,
France put up very little fight and i helped spain battle the almohads who had the largest armies at that time.
i defeated the almohads in serveral large battles but had quite a few rebellions in spain. had plenty of money

then i may have not done much for a few years exept strengthen my garrisons and lauch crusades into various parts of east europe some of which failed :( but most were successful. but costed me lots of moey

eventually it came down to 6 factions, 3 of which were small and weak and 2 were germany and egypt,

germany turned against me and i was forced to start grinding them down with my superiour weaponry.
i had started to collonise the russian provinces and fought some large battles with the egyptians (most of which i won) who had conquoured most of the south east and now were the largest.

suddenly game over, thats the end :'(

i just genuinly think i didnt have enough time to loyalise
the lands i had captured tried to by every means possable
but couldnt stop rebllions and expand eastward at the same time it seemed, aw well maybe i was too merciful on the germans or spent too much time not doing enoug

:P

goto the downloads section, look for juliens 1453 date fix, read the instructions, it will work for games in progress.

There is a line you can add after the startdate call "enddate" in a similar format to the startdate variable.
