Hey all,

Just need to vent a little. First let me say that I fully understand that the things I'm complaining about are moddable.

Also let me just say that overall I love this game dearly.

Now for the Viking gripes.

We are told that the Norwegians can train Vikings with a +1 Valor. Ummmm OK fine, but I cant play the Norwegians as a faction (Swedes either for that matter). Now I'm a third generation American of Scandinavian descent, and if I may be so bold, I just bet there are Swedes and Danes out there that are downright hopping mad that Vikings from THEIR factions are just plain old Vikings with no Valor bonus.

And as long as we are talking about Valor.... If I accept the limitations placed on me by the default game (Norway only), then WHY THE HECK don't I get the valor bonus on ALL VIKING UNITS http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-wall.gif

I DON'T get the valor bonus for Huscarls, Karls, Landsmen etc. Why just vanilla Vikings?

OK third Gripe, Why cant I use any of the VI viking units in an early custom battle? Do other factions get to use their new unit types in an early era custom battle.

If I had to guess I would say that it's a game mechanics thing. CA must have felt that the Danish faction would be too powerful early on (Hmmm sounds like the Byzantines We certainly wouldn't want more than one powerful early faction. And hey, while we're at it lets not let the Danes crusade either even though they did in real life. And hey, lets not let them build some of the more powerful late era Christian units either)

I read somewhere where increased valor can be obtained by getting buildings one step higher then what is required to build the original unit.

i.e. if you require a Master building to build a particular unit you will not get the valor bonus.

e.g.
archer + 0v = Bowyer
archer + 1v = Bowyer WS
archer + 2v = Bowyer Guild

so check what is required to build your unit andbuild one building higher. This should give you the valor.

You could add bonuses for those all those those units in all those regions easily, do a search of the Dungeon it's bound to have a guide on how to do it or be like me and figure it out yourself.

Also are you trying to use them in a custom battle that takes place in High or Late era? You can't build Vikings then. But you can also mod the game to change what eras you can have things available.

Sounds like it's time for you to learn to appreciate the other wonderful half of the total war series, the modability.

Just so you know the Danes are too powerful early on, all you need to build regular Vikings is a fort so you can pump those out already, you're able to take half of Germany before you need to consolidate what you conquered.

And anyhow the new Vikings units were intended for the Viking campaign not the regular were they were kinda tacked on.

And yes I know you said that these things are fully moddable, just you need to appreciate that factor before you complain about a small thing like that.

Download MedMod v3.14...

It has the Swedish faction, along with improved viking units (however no knights as royal units, strange seeing as medieval Scandinavia wasn't very different from other north-European nations) for Denmark as well.

It has strange units for the early Turks (OTTOMAN SIPAHI FOR SELJUQ? WHAT?), but hey, that's another story. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

On the box, there was this sticker that said "This game is a strict History Simulator and no game play modifications have been made to make it Fun".
