Well, that's the question. The file says it will leave all other changes to the game alone, but I just wanted some confirmation from someone who's already using this. Please let me know.
All it does is edit your saved game's current date and set it past 1453 so it never triggers the game ending. Though frankly you can just mod the game ending date itself.
even better, how can I do that? I know how actually, I just need to know which file has that variable and maybe where in the file it is.
Under /campmap/startpos folder, and open the text file relevant to the campaign time period you intend to play (or just edit them all if you want). Then under where it has a bunch of Set Date commands, add:
SetGameEndDate:: nnnn
You need at least v1.1 MTW or VI for this to work. And I think it will only take effect when you start a new campaign.

That method does not work for v1.1 (at least for me), you need to use the year fix unless using VI.

I found that if you change early, high and late to your new date then it should work I had this trouble before (Using VI now) i kept crashing to destop when i started a new campaign. I consequently went back and change the other startpos files to match and presto no more CTD http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif
