For the longest time I never had a problem with CTDs for this game. Then all of the sudden it started crashing when I tried to save. Now it is crashing mid game.

I just finished a 1 hour (real time) battle with the Byzantines. I won ~ 900 to 1600. Immediatelly after I click "OK" the game crashes. I'm so mad.....I'm not mad. Its like a fury overload. Has anyone else experienced that? It feels very strange.

Anyway, I'm looking to find some cheat codes to restore the game. Its the only option b/c when I loaded the quicksave and did auto-calc I lost ~ 1400 to 900.

This is bullsht.

As far as I know there aren't any cheat codes for winning specific games. You're probably out of luck like I was the only time I got close to finishing a campaign. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Did you try to play the battle again? It may have crashed because you've been playing for a while and the game ran out of memory to allocate.
If not, then you have to live with the autocalc..

No cheat codes to restore game as far as I know. CTD's are a pain; the closest thing to a "fix" is to quick save (cntl-s) before ending the year. It will not help you restore your victory, but at least you don't lose how ever many hours you played prior to crashing.

Olé... I hit Ctrl+S at each end of battle-turn, then before each new battle turn. That is, AT LEAST, twice a year. I took the habit with my previous PC, who had overheat problems(long story) & regularly crashed. I kept the paranoia, & find it wise.

If I've understood it right you have the pre-battle situation saved?
If that is so just reload and auto-calc a few times and see if you win. Try to move additional forces into the province before the battle and then do it again until you win.
I tried to defend Constantinopel against byz and reloaded 3 times cause I wanted to do better, test out skirmishing strats etc., The third time with the same forces he decided not to attack...Strange isn't it?
cheers

Update:

The game is now completely unplayable. The crashing disease whose symptoms have somehow gotten worse over time have rendered the game entirely useless.

Now it crashes whenever you hit "Escape", it crashes when you hit "End Turn", it crashes after battles, both tactical and auto-calc, and worst of all it crashes when I try to auto save.

I don't have any clue whats going on.

Move the save games folder to another location, uninstall/reinstall the game, and move the save games folder back.

It's a bit of a pain, but should work.
