So it looks like we have specific terrain types now? By sapping capability, do they mean they can act as sappers?

That is very interesting... it leads me to believe that there is no special sapping unit, but units just need the ability... that's amazing http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-thumbsup.gif

Ah... it's flash so I can't import.

Very very sneaky... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Sapping ability will be nice. I assume they are talking about undermining walls. Sounds like a good flanker/ambush unit.

Like the format, good job CA http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Hmmm...I dont know about this sapping ability. The hiding thing makes sense as through history lightly armed skirmish troops were ideal for ambush tactics (ie Thracian peltasts etc). But that sapping thing is a bit worriesome to me, I just cant imagine a Velite trying to sap a wall. I guess I will have to see it in the final game.

On another positive note though, I like the fact that there seems to be a vide variety of terrain types.

Does anyone know with what frequency the unit info will be posted? once a week, once a month, once a day (yeah I wish http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-smile.gif ).

Cheers,
Rev

Siege enginnering, and some other stuff too-tunnelling under walls, digging trenches to house guns, placing explosives, etc. I believe that private soldiers in the Royal Engineers are still known as sappers, actually.

Looking at a the screen shots I've seen. A lot of the battle shots have included buildings and walls. This leads me to believe that sieges and assaults are going to play a much bigger part in Rome than they have ever done in MTW.

Maybe the Devs are going to actually deliver the game that they've always wanted to. Sapping could become a key skill, as there will be many more battles you'll conduct around a major settlement.

I must admit that castle assaults are the battles I avoid playing unless absolutely necessary.

About bloody time. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

However, this raises a few questions- How are they going to "show" sapping? Will you choose to send people on "sapping duty" before the assault, or during a siege even without an assault yet taking place? You can't very well have them magically digging through the ground like some sort of Roman pokemon. And will there be a sort of "see-through" ground thing, so we can monitor them? Will there be fights in the tunnels as counter-sappers make contact? Perhaps it will be not unlike dismounting knights before battle...

More than a few questions, actually...

Rock on, CA http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif

Looks pretty cool http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif , as far as I can remember these weren't included in the previous set of unit profiles....so does this mean they've revised the list of troops(ie making barbarians more accurate)?

Yes, I think the reason given for taking down the old units was that 'they no longer accurately reflected the game'.

Hmm Experts at hiding in Forest... Sounds like a great ambush troop.

Run out behind the enemy let fly a few volleys of Javs and then charge in Nice http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

THey're not ninja. Charge with them and they'll be very dead very quickly. The trick with such light troops should be to hit and run, and to dominate grreound where formed bodies can't go.

Good point, they are like the javs in MTW.
Still you can charge with them, they are the expendable battle fodder of a leigion really.

Let loose with all your Javs and then charge into Combat when your ammo has run out, that sounds good to me http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

The Romans if I remember my history correctly were unequaled at siege warfare in their time. Big King most regular infantry in british army refer to all engineers as sappers, i wouldnt be surprised if it was still a designation within the army though

Many peeps were complaining that the link wasn’t working when it was just loading.
At the community’s behest, Shogun was good enough to make a loading bar…and this took time which he would no doubt have spent updating something else.
This was the update for Monday.

Yep I built and added the preloader for Mondays update as I had a few confused peeps on slower connections with an empty window http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif I posted this on the TW forum in updates thread:

Monday (9th Feb) we updated the unit profile with the new preloader, so any one on a slower concetion knows how much longer they have to wait.

You will get new Res Romanae updates every day this week (with the odd snippet about the game in there so make sure you check it every day).

Wednesday we'll update the building profile. So Friday will see a new 3D unit profile.
