Hi, everyone! It has been a long time since I last visited and it seems there a lot of new faces, how about the old guard (Hach, you there?) Anyway, I was wondering, when the game has progressed to where only two clans are left the game can resemble a stalemate, has anyone any good ideas for breaking this stalemate, apart from the Geisha? Also, should we view these stalemates as a flaw in the game or an inevitable facet of the game, similar to the way in which chess which can degenerate into stalemate?

Finally, to digress, how come in the Mongol invasion I stop recieving reinforcments after a certain date, even though I am still acruing koku? Well, a lot to think about there, look forward to your ideas.

IMHO There are several ways to stop it becoming a stalemate for any length of time.

Think like a Mongol and slash and burn your way through key enemy territories. Hit hard, capture a castle, burn all the buildings then retreat to hit somewhere else. Mobility and concentration of your forces is the key, this is where ports can be a jewel in this strategy.

Unless a golden opportunity presents itself [opposing Daimyo leading a charge across a bridge]. Aim to kill the largest opponent. Particularly when there are only 2 or 3 left. It generally means that the final opponent does not have enough strength to stop you flooding through. Also if you have good diplomatic ties with the smaller/less powerful opponent then the larger one will have to fight on two fronts.

Don't bother going for every ronin province. Only go for them when it is cost effective. You can win by just going straight for your opposing Daimyos castles while leaving a minimal border guard to repel ronin and a small mobile army to hit anything that does penetrate your first layer of outer provinces.

As for the Mongols not getting reinforcements after awhile this is the same thing as Daimyos dieing of old age. There is a limited amount of time to wipe out your enemy. Remember speed kills, so charge your enemies! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

I think the stalemate can be viewed as a slight flaw in the game. Personally the game gets really boring with only 1 or 2 competing Daimyos. I really wish it would have been designed so that a Clan can never be completely eliminated... but thats just me.

Except through conquest, not 'dying of old age' or 'running out of heirs'... right?
