I like small to mid size battles, to be honest I hate anything over 16 units. Once factions have reinforcements the apply to fight goes down.
Is their anyway to not only make it 16 units max per 1 unit stack but to aslo make it 16 units max per province?

Don't think you can put a definitive limit on that. Increasing upkeep cost will give some of the desired effect though.

I don't think so, In the Turkish PBM we gathered 40,000 troops to defeat the much smaller Mongol army of 12,000. Haha i almost died laughing when i saw the screenshot of the Numbers But i'd do what Norseman said, increasing upkeep will limit the number of units trained. but as for a unit province cap, i don't think it's possible.

Hehehehe, I remember that screenshot. It was wild. I wish the Golden Horde had such numbers when it appeared. It would be more historically accurate methinks and would add an increased level of difficulty to the game. As it stands right now, 15000 Mongols can be beaten back quite reasonably. Now, if they appeared with 100000 (thats right, one hundred thousand) it would be a whole new different ball game http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-jester.gif
Does anyone know if it is possible to mod the size of the Horde? Or is it hardcoded?

I bet the Horde spawn is done kinda like Crusades, in that they are a predetermined spawning of a rebellion, with certain % chances that their troops will appear in several provinces around Khazar, and that the troop mix is varied.
I'd take a look at the High file in the campmap/startpos file, cause I'm pretty sure it's in the High period that the Horde shows up. I bet somewhere in there is the code you're looking for.
I think if you lower the cost of the Golden Horde units then they will come in larger numbers, as well as the Horde will be able to train some.
Did that, and lowered the tech needed as the AI isn't all that good at that. The Horde became rather powerful.

The only thing I could suguest is for you to increase the unit size in game options, therefore you get more guys on screen in the initial 16 with fewer reinforcements...
Also makes for an awesome sight on the battlefield http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

How would that change the reinforcement ratio?
are 20 big stacks different then 20 normal or 20 small unit size stacks?

With regards to the Mongols I am not sure.
But I was talking about general campaigning, larger units trained over two years gives you fewer reinforcements.
I suppose you could enable the setting for huge units after the Mongols invade in a normal game and get the computer to tidy up armies, the Mongol armies may merge their normal sized units into larger ones.

Oh the larger units take 2 turns to build. Got ya.
I just wish there was a way to limit the number of units, or number of men in a given province.
erm so small and normal unit sizes take 1 turn and large take 2? or does normal take 2

I don't think that you change the unit size after you've started the campaign http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif In order for the change to take effect you need to start a new campaign; then the units will be at the new size http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

IIRC the Khwarizmi Shahs met the mongols with 100,000 men but still lost due to Chengiz's superior strategy. But I doubt any western European nation or for that matter the Turks and Byzantines could even match that number. When the Mamelukes beat the mongols at Ain Jalut there were I believe only about 10,000 mongols the rest having gone back after Chengiz died.
The battle between the King of Poland & the Mongol wing in their invasion of Hungary was like 40 000 (West) vs 20-30 000 (Mongols). The King of Poland still lose (Stupid impetuous knights).
So we had so big battles in the west too.
