What im trying to ask here is which of the three total wars would you have wished was the one being made now? Or in other words, which would you have liked to be the one with full 3d graphix and the deepest gameplay...

Personally i love Samurai's, so it would be STW for me.

'Fraid to say, it has to be rome for me. Romans always have that visualy inspiring effect of BIGness for no apparent reason, well utilised in the starting scenes of Gladiator. I think 3d will suit them just fine.

Medieval. Samurais are kinda cool...but they're just are many unit types. Rome will no doubt be ultra cool, I just think that the 3-d graphics and map functions would've been more interesting if they covered both ancient style swords and spears and big rocks, and the advent of guns.

I have to admit that I'd like to have Medieval as the third.

Why? Well, er... doh.. it's just that I've always been big into the Medieval Europe (not a fanatic tho). Intensive sieges taking place in Medieval. Huge trebuchets pouring boulders onto the defenders and finally heavy cavalry rumbling down those poor enemies once the gate has been forced open.

Yummy.

But I don't mind Rome either. Afterall, it's pretty certain that there will be loads of Medieval mods (and who knows, maybe a couple of Shogun mods will take place as well).

Rome, Medieval, Shogun.. Who cares? Just gimme those fancy and angry little men and gimme lots of 'em.

At the moment, I would say medieval, and I intend to make a medieval mod based on R:TW engine once it's out, but I would have to wait and see R:TW and then make a final stand. Ah, forget it, M:TW reigns supreme, variety of units and the depth of the SP campaigns are just monumental, not to mention there is some serious matchlock action in M:TW that R:TW will definitely lack.

Of course that MTW http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

If I could I would love to see MTW done with the new Engine... that would be so cool

It certainly is one of the most fun eras to play Total War in.

Good question Ragss and definatly STW for me. The orig STW wasent very deep, there is ALOT more unit types and area they could deepen.

No worries tho as I'm sure R:TW will have an STW conversion mod at some point. There is mod tools being released with the game you know http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Rome. The idea of Legions advancing started the megalomania that afflicts all mtw players.

I've been waiting for a remake of Final Fantasy II and/or III for 10 years now.....it won't happen. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-no.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

I bet once you guys get some hands on with Rome you will change your tune. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif Rome has had many interesting seiges and military strategies. I can't wait to use the turtle formation to block archer fire http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif Plus Legionaires are just plain cool. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif Not to mention the Celts and the Carthaginians.

I wish they would remake Shogun because I came into TW with Medieval. I've never played Shogun before, but it sounds so good.

I have to say medieval. I have shogun aswell, and while more units and depth of gameplay would make it better for sure, I don't like it as much as medieval because I was neevr into the historical period in japan much. Medieval, however, is fantastic, with rome, yeah, you'll get funky legionairs and stuff, plus there are many fun sieges and the like, but in medieval you get to unite the bickering nations that have been left behind with the fall of rome, which was momumantal to say the least.

Though, I would say one thing I'd like next (I know, I know, rome isn;t even out yet) I'd like america.

Me, I'm british and through very old games like colonisations I have more than once deliberatley LOST the war of independance, but also several times (with other games) changed the tatics of the rebels entirely and gone on to win it. For example, while muskets are loud and messy, never underestimate the power of the bow, for a poorly trained bowman you can get 6 shots a minute while the regulars with muskets get two, maybe three. Cannons maybe scary, but catapaults cause nearly as much damage.

So, I vote medieval, but I really want the american colonisation, and the war of independance, but as a twist I want to be able to play the war of independance from the OTHER side, fighting to stamp down a rebellion in the colonies. American conquest was severaly lacking in my opinion, to much on looks not enough on playability, and eve if you DID get into it, the musket is rubbish Give me a chance to play with backwards tactics in the america's

Rome is the absolute kicker when it comes to warfare. Nor before, neither after has there been an empire like this. Forged with the steel and dismantled by greed. Exept for Mesopotamia and asia beyond Rome conquered the known world. A quest unmatched

Excellent poll Ragss http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-thumbsup.gif

...though my head is spinning at the dilemma. I find it a little difficult to vote with so many RTW questions unanswered at this time. Would STW be a better game with RTW's battle engine, but no throne room, movies, seasons, etc.? Like I said, too much is unknown about RTW yet.

I'd vote Gah if there was such an option.

You wouldn't have to wish if they would ever remake a game and do it right. Very few games are worth it, but some surely are. In a few years when I'm tired of RTW, I would LOVE to get a completely remade MTW or STW.

On a related note, I would pay in excess of $100 for a modern remake of Final Fantasy II and/or III, Secret of Mana and the original Zelda (as long as it wasn't fruity like the gamecube one http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif )

Hmm.

I vote for MTW.
The medieval period is the most intesting for me (even if medieval total war doesnt cover the whole middle ages. As middle ages is roughly the perdiod 500-1500, so MTW only coveres 50% of that time. ;)

I dont like Romans very much somehow.
Seems like I wouldbe forced to play any Germanic barbarian tribe then and sacrfify some Roman Legionaires to Thor and Odin or to glouriously go to Valhall with a Roman Pillum in my chest ;)

Just a small point, but Rome total war will undoubtably feature the Punic Wars. If this is historically accurate it is going to involve marching to north Africa, laying a massive seige on Carthage, then breaching the walls killing every man, woman, child and animal inside, knocking down all the buildings, burning the city to the ground then salting the earth so nothing can ever live there again.

Man the Romans were harsh.

There are many other big seiges in Roman history, the seige of Veii took six years I think.

I think that it would have been cooler and more interesting if perhaps all of the games had gone in a chronological order. Thus RTW first, STW second, and MTW last. (Atleast I think STW comes after RTW.) I just think that I would have had more fun if the whole series was in a chronology.

Tell me mounted Samurai, in full Yaroi Armor with a helm and grotesque face mask rendered in high polygon count glorious 3D wouldn't be DA BOMB
