I've downloaded the MTW_stats_v11.xls to learn more about the units. I appreciate the good work done on this (and similar) file However, there's no readme to go with it, so some things are cryptical to me. Does anyone here have a clue?

Eff [col E] seems to be an arbitrary, but reasonable, weighting of attack, defence, armour, charge and morale points times size through cost.

Required valour [col C] is very cryptical. The larger size, the more attack and the more defence a unit got, the lower this value gets. Btw, required for what?

CF480 [col D] is as strange as its heading. 1.7^Required valour, times cost???

I suspect that there are good reasons for these calculations, that they are not far from what the game code and AI uses. But how am I supposed to make use of such analysis?

I suppose that other peculiarities, such as using honor insntead of valour and the final columnn samurai are legacy from STW.

I'm thinkning about making some calculations on typical and realistic situations. For instance, how the fighting value of spearmen is affected by bonuses/penalties when it gets tired, losses are mounting and the ranks are falling appart, compared to when it is suddenly charged upon from a flank when otherwise in good condition. It would be nice to know if there are some hidden mathematics I should know about before

Welcome to the Org vonNichts of Sweden http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

I'm not going to, nor can I, help you with those questions of yours. I could bore you with my philosophy (read opinion) on this type of statistical analysis. I could - but I won't. The desire for me to babble on endlessly wouldn't help you in your quest for knowledge. Thus, you and I can chat about other things to wile away the time until some kind-hearted soul wanders by with the answers you seek... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-confused.gif

Eh, nevermind me vonNichts - a strange mood swept over me, but I'm better now. Carry on.
