Grrr.... I had a bad run in with a ally. we where to defend and he wanted to attack and not stand ground.. He started to call me names, I called him a few things then attacked him, said sorry to the other gamers and left. then I challenged him to a one on one to settle this non sense but he never answered me...... any idea on how to deal with allied taunting.. lol

First of all, dont stoop to his level.
Second, dont rise to baiting-- i.e. dont call him names, no matter what he calls you. Well, sometimes I fail at this, but strive for perfection. Just dont rise to baiting.
Third, you will occasionally get bad (ok really bad) allies-- just grin and bear it. Most of the time it is because they are new. If they knew what they were doing they wouldn't set themselves up to fail. So, most likely, he was ignorant and didn't mean it. Yeah he is an idiot for not knowing better-- but we were all new once.
Obviously you are not playing the latest version...there is no way to attack allies in the latest version. You will find that the quality of your allies increases as your version does.
I'd rather slit my wrists than play a single game of un-patched MTW. Lol.

I think you should have handled this differently. Retaliations like name-calling, backstabbing, and quitting will only take you down to or even beneath the level of your adversary. Make it a point to act in the interest of the game. It is an insult to the host and the other players in there to prematurely end the game that they waited so long to play. Not everyone will see you as the good guy when you behave like this.
There are going to be morons out there. I do not know whether this was the case with your game or not. It does seem suspicious to not defend one's plan and cut straight to the frustration part. It is a skill to know the odds of a plan working. Some people have this skill, others feign it. If your skill here is superior, you ought to show some of your reasoning, and hopefully you'll come to terms with the rest of your team. A team needs a top dog, but cannot afford to have two. Your story illustrates this. However, what is worse is for a team not to have a top dog. I've seen many teams kill themselves with indecision, choosing to gamble with procrastination instead of gambling with a plan. Sometimes this works, mainly on steppe maps. However, some maps will force a team to make a decision, and not making one often commits you to a slow death, like Carcano. This might have been what ticked your ally off so much. However, he might have just been a jerk who could not be reasoned with. If this is the case, just ignore him and let the other people in the game have their game.
Dont listen to Dionysius and Kongamoto - they are clearly drunk. You must win at all costs
First, cuss at the guy. Don't forget to call him a "Noob", repeatedly.
In the game, tell everyone, use T, that your ally doesnt know sht from good applesauce. Attacking him was a good start. At the very least refuse to help anyone you dont like.
I like the part about challenging him to a duel. Remember to save the replay (if you win) at post it on your website (if you dont have a website then save and remind him about it).
If you are losing the duel then just unplug your computer - that way it looks like you got disconnected. Don't wait too long to do this, at the first hint of trouble quit (he may save the replay)
Immediately go to the lobby and repeat at least 20 -30 times that (insert name here) is a wanker and should be banned and ignored by all reasonable players. Do this to the whole room, but make sure you also individually tell all of your special friends. Don't be afraid to make up lies about the guy.
OK, OK just kidding (except Bachus is probably drunk). I hope that looking at the above shows how senseless it is.
I too must work hard to avoid getting drawn into fights sometimes. My (*looks at self and admits truth*) tendency is to take the bait.
Must remember these:
They will drag you down to their level then beat you with experience (learned this from Casino and Elmo, two of the best guys in the game)
Never argue with the village idiot, for people will tend to get the two of you confused (old Russian proverb)
You cannot win Do not try If the other guy is a loser then he isnt going to change because of you. If he is right then eventually you will be embarassed.
It's just a game. Just play for fun. So what if you lose a game. If you learn from it then that's a win
The best revenge is live well.
Amateurs get mad. Pros get on with it.
Most hotheads dont stick around this community very long. It is a small one so a lot of people know about a lot of people. I believe that honor is the same as having a good name.
So calm down, think long term, enjoy.
I only hope I can live up to it the next time some moron makes me mad

Personally I had banned you for attacking an ally&quiting.
I'd just let him go and either get slaughtered or support him as much as possible, victory above pride.

Well a good ally should be busy insulting the other team not his own http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
Anyway if your ally is so insulting that you cannot bear him her or it then appologize to the other team then rout and quit ....

Vanya sez dealing with dweeb ally can be a real test of patience. Vanya sez, follow these golden nuggets of Vanya's wisdom, and youz too shall bask in the glory of a meatgrinder
1) When your ally does something real stoopid, go ahead and do a frontal charge on your nearest foe. Youz about to lose anyway, so go out with a bang. Then blame your disaster on youz "helping protect the flank of your ally".
2) When your ally gets cheese army, march army behind his and tell him youz wants to fight a "defensive" battle. Let him absorb bulk of enemy fire and blame his casualties on "ineffective leadership". Then, just charge your men into the fray so they can kill a few enemy bastids before your ally's routing men cause your own to flee for the hills.
3) If youz are facing a clan group, and youz have timmy5698, Poindexter9000 and BoobieNoobie on your team, get insane army an have fun. Youz probably get "more kills" with your v4w3a3 fanatic rush than your hapless allies will anyways. This way, youz can "amaze" them with your tactical prowess. And youz can then get them to join up on 1v1s where youz can murder their armies and make soup of their heads, and do it all in the name of "edukasun".
4) If your ally forgot to buy valor for their troops in a 99999 game, go ahead and tell them to compensate by putting all units into wedgie formations.
Vanya hope this will help youz walk the narrow line.

I can't wait to use that in a game

There are times when I wish I could turn off the ingame chat. I think it might be possible by blocking the port that chat uses which is different than the one the battle itself uses.

When my allies are good... We win games... When they are not, we lose games...
Conclusion; I guess I don't make much of a difference?

Louis,
Well this reminds me of a 3v3 I was in just the other day. We were defending and I was in the center position. After some skirmishing, we determined that the enemy across from our right side was the weak spot. Thru messaging, we had just completed our plan to open up an attack on our right side, and I am putting troops in position to support my right ally. Suddenly, I see our left ally advancing his entire army at full speed. Both me and my right ally ask, are you attacking? He says, yes, I am bored just sitting here. I frantically send most of my cav left to help him out.
Since he just charged the strong point of the enemy he was chain-routed in a nano-second, taking all my cav with him. Left ally quits the game. Then his routers run thru my army from the left side, chased by all the enemy cav and I see those white flags blinking on all 16 of my units at once. My opp doesn't miss a beat and hits me head-on. I quickly message my right ally, telling him to attack his man, that our left allys boredom just got me killed, and that I would try to salvage whatever I can. Right allys reply is simply "cool". Right ally easily beats his man with about 2/3 of his army intact, and I manage to save only my Gen, consisting of 9 fast cav. Enemy still has 3 players left with an assortment of troops, outnumbering our remaing forces.
Let me tell you that the game went on for another 20 minutes after that, and it was some of the most enjoyable time I have spent playing the game, as together we chipped away at the enemys forces before delivering the finishing blow. I used those 9 horses to bait and draw enemy units into harms way so my ally could finish them off. They chased down routers to ensure they kept running right off the field. And while my ally was conducting frontal assaults, I was running that cav behind the enemy units to give them morale penalties. We prevailed in the end and let me tell you the seven horses I left the game with were worth their weight in florins. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
So, here's my simple advice:
Ignore it and above all do not respond in kind. Make the most of the situation at hand. Who knows, you might actually have fun doing it. Move on to the next game.

When youz suspect your allies be noobs, youz can field a "fun" army. Vanya recommends 16 naptha throwers. The olde sanda bomas make for a blast in game Just bundle them amidst one of your allies troops, and unleash heck when enemy draws near.
Sure, youz will likely blow off your own thumb and the noggins of your ally's men more so than do any real harm to the foe, but at least youz can blame your ally's lack of courage under fire for the loss.
And for extra fun, make 1 of the units -- NOT gen -- a hashishin and sit the bastid in a corner and tell nobody its there. Then, when all is lost and your allies are bewildered that the game is still going, amaze them with your prowess as you unleash the weedsmokers onto the unsuspecting enemy generals
GAH
Personally, I would just play the battel out, and just try to get your new partners to not charge blindly as they tend to do. It's even more rewarding when you beat the odds and win a game you should have lost.
