View Full Version : New idea for a game type

The King is held up in his keep surrounded by 4 enemy armies from around the land. He desperately waits on his armies to come and save him.

I have an idea for a 4v4 type of game on a keep map. The center defender who's general is the king holds a small keep a 2_2 type in a High period game. The florins is an even amount at 10k per player for a total of a 40k game. The objective for the attackers is to kill the players general who holds the keep before they get killed by the 3 other defenders who come on as reinforcements on any side of the map they choose.

If the king dies before the enemy is routed the attackers win. Of course the game is still played through to the end but the main goal of the attackers is to get that king before its too late.

Considerations: The defender who holds the keep cannot bring 16 units without having to use 8 of them as reinforcements. If he tries to balance his spending amoung 16 units his men in the keep may not last long enough. So my theory is that the king player should only take 8 elite units to hold his keep, hopefully buying him enough to stave off the 4 players.

Expections: the king's army can be out shot quite easily. What will make the matter worse is if the enemy brings longbows. Because we would want the players to charge the keep to cut the king down, longbows would be restricted.

Would anyone be intrested in giving this game type a shot with me?

sure I'd give it a try-- its better than the standard old castle battles, why not?

sounds cool. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-2thumbsup.gif

how do you choose which side you come in with reinforcements (as the relieve force for the king).
I mean, would not your first 8 units be in the castle, too.
(sorry if this is a dumb question http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/flat.gif )

Anyway it sounds fun, let me know if you want me in.

Unfortunately last night i found out that defending armies can't choose the time or place they come into the map. Because of this I theorize that the attackers would have a less of a challenge seeing how they could pack attack any defender coming on to the map. So i'd like to play a couple more castle games, see if i can find a good map and some new strategies before i'd try this regicide idea.

you might wanna have a gentlemens agreement that the attackers hold up and let the defense steel themselves for the assault, if that would work?

Looks awesome.

Could you post a link for download ?

And have you tried it with respect to balance ?
That castle looks as if my grandma could defend it with a toothpick.

Thats a cool map Louis, the fortified harbor is a nice touch. Ya that map could work alright, but its got some problems. I would want the florins to be even for att/def so we dont have problems with setups that are under/over powered and there's just to many towers for that to be possible.

Im going to go ahead and try to host a couple regicide games, as a solution to the pack hunting problem it's going to be asked that the attackers move for the keep as soon as the walls come down.

We'll need some real team players to cordinate an attack on a keep and defend against 3 armies coming the opposite direction.

Actually, that map looks liek it would be hard to defend. It only has one wall, which means its easy to puncture, and since there are only 8 units, it would be too spread out to defend. Unless of course, the castle is coming off as bigger than it actually is?

I'd be willing to play.

Have you had any more thoughts on this, InDaKnight ?
Or had a chance to try it out, yet ?

I really liked the idea and would be interested to see how it worked.

Ive been looking for you guys when I get on, cause I know your intrested. Are your names different? If I try to host without arranging it no one will come.

I also found out on a 2_2_keep you can have 12 units inside the king's keep. This could screw things up. If the king can successfully barracade all entry points into the keep what chance do the attackers have of killing him before it becomes to late?
