View Full Version : governor away, province income?

I never really looked in to this, as I normally let my governor sit forever in a province once I give them the title... but, last night, when playing the Danes, I had a former heir as governor of Sweden that had 4 stars and 6 acumen. With only a few provinces, I did not want to waste him sitting there with a chance to conquer a valuable new province...however, the new province did not have a port, so it took a few years to get him back home to Sweden.
I thought after I shut down for the night - does a province lose income when the governor is away? I never really thought of that while running through so many campaigns, as I rarely move a governor.

No. The gov can be anywhere. Mine are frequently off somewhere else. Presumably his acumen allows him to appoint equally wise (or foolish) stewards in his absence.

Thanks, I just plopped an admiralty on my governor of Sweden, so he is now an 8 star general and will soon be invading a nice juicy rebel province in hopes of making him 9 stars... (I already sent him to relieve my Spanish allies under siege in Portugal...)
I think it says somewhere in the manual that the further away a gov is from his province then the less income you`ll get

It's better for governor to stay in his province. If he's far away loyality goes down, and of course income. That was my experience on expert mode.
Also I had some of them with few stars and good V&V, and use them in battle, but not longer than 3-5 turns, return him back for a while, and use again if I need him.
As in real world, he's place is at his home

Just tested this and distance has zero effect for me. Found Milan with the 5ACU gov sitting right there, making 582 florins. Disbanded unit, found another 5ACU in Volhynia, titled him and Milan back to making 582 florins. Since Milan and Volhynia are both landlocked, even taking the sea connection into account that's a good distance. Manual only mentions that the province "will be more loyal when their duke is present", not a word about income.

IIRC, only dread requires you're in the province to work. But that's from far memories... I keep governors in provinces just because it is easier to manage. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-lost.gif

I NEVER keep good governers in their provences.
Why? Because inactive units will inevitably gather some NASTY vices often removing his usefulness. Send them out into the field. If you find one that is just so awesome you can't risk him, send his unit to sit in you king's stack back home. Since he is not the general, he will not get bad vices (King's don't get bad vices from inactivity). Then use his unit to refill other units until he is by himself.
Good commanders must be on the frontier. When they have high acumen they must be rulers too. I only have high acumen crummy general types stay home.
There is enough going on without worrying about how long anyone remains beyond his fiefs. I rarely see the absentee landlord vice. The fact is that I only monitor the richest provinces and the highest acumen persons. When I get the V&V report I note where the best and worst new V&Vs appear and check them out. A man gaining acumen may get a new job. An expensive vice will get someone fired. One can’t have a man ripping 20% from Constantinople after all. The rest I ignore. Who cares what the Duke of Sinai is doing? Losing 10% of most regions to a bit of vice is not a headache, especially if you’re already rich.
