I was reading some text files from MTW, yesterday, and I noticed that there was several lines that I never saw in the game.
The files I'm thinking about are EVENTS.TXT and TOOLTIPS.TXT
Plenty of them seemed to be old Shogun parts (reference to Seppuku, Daymos, etc.).
But most look like being part of MTW that were planned but not used/implemented.
There is, at the beginning of the EVENTS.TXT, reference to a "Father Visitor", that seems to be able to force peace/alliance, and reference to a "Cardinal attack" to remove priest from other players :
//@{"Killing a Priest prevents him from negotiating alliances for his Faction. They are generally easy targets, and if you are Christian, a Cardinal attack is the only way of removing them. "}
//@{"Killing the Father Visitor is difficult, but it is the only way for a Christian faction to ensure he is not forced into an unwanted alliance. "}
Never saw anything about this in the game.
There is also some events related to harvest, that I also never encountered while playing :
@["harvestmes"]
@{"The harvest has been terrible, and all crop revenues are down by half."}
@{"There has been a poor harvest, all crop revenues are down by a quarter."}
@{"This year's harvest was as expected."}
@{"We had a good harvest this year, and all crop revenues are up by a quarter."}
@{"There was a bumper harvest this year, my Lord. All crop revenues are up by half."}
There is many cool events and tooltips like that : tooltips about zeal, tooltips about health, tooltips about happiness, etc... I wonder if they are actually in the game and I just did not encountered them, or if they are just leftovers ?
And, mostly, there is a particular case of these lines that I'm interested into. It's the tooltips for characters' stats.
In the game, the stats range from level 0 to level 9. Each level except 0 has a description, and you can see this description if you hover the mouse over one of YOUR unit.
Still, in the TOOLTIPS.TXT file, there is also descriptions for level 0 and level 10, and there is a field for "other's influence", which means that you should be theorically able to see the description by hovering the mouse over ennemies' characters' stats.
The strange thing, is that these tooltips aren't anywhere else. It seems that the game get all the characters' stats tooltips from this very file. But then, why there is, in game, no description for level 0 or level 10 stats ?
Here is a selective example of these "hidden level" stats :
["influence_tooltip"]
{"How much other factions and outside forces are swayed by his actions."}
@["influence_rating"]
@{"You are virtually ignored outside your own borders. Foreign parties consider you of little or no consequence."}
@{"You command little influence in matters abroad. Other factions are highly unlikely to take heed of what you have to say."}
[...] (skipping the intermediate level to save place ^^)
@{"You have the ear of many of the foreign powers in the world and the attention of all of them. Leaders who oppose you risk much indeed."}
@{"No sane man would dare stand against you in matters of state. Treaties are likely to be accepted without a second thought and seldom broken by the other party, no matter what transgressions you may perform."}
Here some selective part of what we would be supposed to see when looking at others faction leaders :
@["other_influence_rating"]
@{"It is a wonder this man is considered a leader of his people at all, for the amount of influence he commands. Not a man to be considered a serious political threat."}
@{"His opinions are of no matter in the world of international politics. He is not likely to affect actions of other parties as either an ally or an enemy."}
[...]
@{"One of the minor powers in the world. He is not a threat on his own, although small powers in large numbers have been known to cause problems for more influential parties."}
@{"An influential man, but one need not take his word as law. He has some influence over the smaller factions, but others do not feel the need to consider his position when discussing foreign policy."}
[...]
@{"An alliance with this faction would certainly strengthen your position. Any effort required in making an alliance with this man would not be poorly spent."}
[...]
@{"This man has achieved the pinnacle of international power. Such influence should not be wielded by one man and steps should be taken to strip him of it before he grinds enemies and allies alike into the dust in his goal of total conquest."}
Would be cool to have it in game :)
And a last part of these hidden lines, is the description of AI behaviour (in EVENTS.TXT). There is several "personnalities" that are described, in the likes of :
@{"Stealth and secrecy delight this leader, and you can be assured that he will build up a spy network of unrivalled quality. That doesn't mean he neglects conventional forces - his armies are well balanced and strong. The quality of his spy and counterspy network makes it difficult to get detailed information on his forces, and very difficult to use spies and agents against him."}
@{"This leader prefers that an enemy should die at an assassin's hand rather than face him in battle. He is blamed for many untimely deaths, but often rightly so. His armies are also strong, and adept at exploiting the confusion that arises when an enemy general falls to an assassin's blade."}
There is about 10-15 like that.
Well, so what's about all these cool lines ? Will we ever able to see them in game ? How ?
I'm really curious ^^
