What music gets you ready for battle? What tune makes your blood boil and your troops bite their shields?
Modern, classic, ethnic, humorous... all suggestions will have their own merits, I'm sure. Also... why not post a link to a clip of the tune if you know where to find one.
I've got varied tastes, but starting with classical suggestions (Classic FM was the only thing I could pick up on my radio this morning)...
There are plenty, for example:
Richard Wagner's The Ride of the Valkyries (thinks helicopters) (clip from Amazon.com) (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004SUVI/qid=1076672486/sr=2-2/ref=sr_2_2/103-2601784-0076647)
For the English there is Jerusalem by Sir Charles H.H. Parry (from Amazon.com) (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00000AEL9/ref=pd_sim_music_5/103-2601784-0076647?v=glance&s=music)
IMHO ever since seeing Excalibur, when I think Knights I think Carl Orff's Oh Fortuna from Carmina Burana (clip from Amazon.com) (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004SUVI/qid=1076672486/sr=2-2/ref=sr_2_2/103-2601784-0076647)
I've got the engagement music replaced with 2 different tracks. One is survivor yell off the survivor soundtrack, which works ok. The other, and one I highly recommend, is called Zenobia Grave: A hero has risen, a remix of a tune from Ogre Battle available over at overclocked remix. I find putting that music in increased my blood flow during battles 10-fold.
There was a track from an old Sega CD game called Dark Wizard that I'd like to use, but never could fing.
I also, for some strange reason have Land of Confusion by Genesis as the deployment music before battle. It just landed there when I was figuring out exactly which tracks play where, but for some reason, it works quite nicely. But I'm odd like that.
I also replaced the catholic victory music with Queen's Princes of the universe, the version that was the theme for the Highlander T.V. series. Fitting, I thought.
I think the ingame music is really nice. The Turks' music is especially unique because the composer used historical-original Turkic instruments. Especially the one in which he used saz; 4 string-long neck instrument, makes me a ruthless warmonger. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-computer.gif
Call me unimaginative, but I use the music that came with the game. I'm very fond of the muslim tune when the army first marches. The viking tunes are excellent too and so is pretty much every tune in the game. Oh, Fortuna is however my favourite piece of music (even though I hated Excalibur) so I probably should consider fighting to that one. It might make me bit impetuous though, and I'm really there to make tactical decisions and not to charge the pikemen head on in a wedge formation.

Right now I listen to 'Ghost dog' by RZA, somehow quiet and contemplative, with a fun 'raise your sword' moment. Or Jon Spencer Blues Explosion; 'Now I got worry'.
It does not get me in agressive, warlike spirit; more in a semi detached kind of attitude.
Louis,
I think I agree with Cazbol on this to some extent...
I think the soundtrack to this game is one of the best I've ever heard.
I also keep an extensive collection of movie soundtracks. It's funny because it seems the worse the movie, the better the soundtrack. Good fightin' tunes can be found on
The Rock
Crimson Tide (or pretty much any movie by Jerry B.)
Broken Arrow
Gettysburg
Glory
The classic Last of the Mohicans
Legends of the Fall
etc.
If I had to pick something else, I'll had to go with some Epic metal song like Battle Hymns or Blood of my Enemies (clip from amazon.com) (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00000IQ15/ref=pd_sim_music_1/102-0069811-9804158?v=glance&s=music&n=507846) by Manowar. Not the best lyrics, but very inspiring music

Oh, Fortuna and various others from Carmina Burana are brilliant. If you can stand the wait, the fourth section of Resphigi's Pines of Rome (the whales in Fantasia 2000) is great stuff. I like Copland, but that could be the Yankee talking. I think Lacker's on the right track, too. Anything Hans Zimmer is great. Braveheart/Last of the Mohicans. Oh, and there is nothing that makes me want to kill things more than Duel of the Fates from the Episode One. Williams is genius. And Patrick Doyle's Henry V soundtrack from the Brannagh film will always hold a place in my heart.

Music in MTW is funtastic, I wish more to listen and to be longer.
The Muslim faction music is superb, and just to let you know, that song which girl sing is a old Serbian song from Kosovo. It was during the 5 century of Turkish occupation.
When I fight a battle I love to listen to nice Heavy music, such as Korn, Manosn, Pantera, Slipknot, Slayer, Soulfly, Sepultura etc...
But when I'm in the late Era using cannons and guns I love to fight to 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky (?spelling?)
Some more good fight songs are: The Knife by Genesis, Bleed by Soulfy, Fight Song by Marylin Manson and Seek and Destroy by Metallica http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif

The in-game music is pretty good, perhaps CA should include the tracks as a audio cd on the second cd for RTW?

You can't beat a bit of Queen for raising your spirits.

At least you would actually use the wedge formation

The Duel of the Fates accompanies one of the best sword fight scenes ever, imho. So I would concur there.

Wasn't there a film based in Medieval times called Ladyhawke or something, that had a soundtrack by one of the guys from Genesis... from what I remember it wasn't quite right for the movie.

guys trust me on these ones.
time it perfectly and Muse's Hysteria song is the best ever for action moments.
and Disturbed's Voices is also good.
Last night was a mix of Slayer (e.g. Angel of Death) and Frank Zappa (e.g. Weasels Ripped My Flesh).
Worked out great http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif

Tonka, you are right, except the music was written by Andrew Powell, produced by Alan Parsons and performed by several members of Alan's band - thus the electronic/modern sound to it. You are right too that the music, although nice, didn't really go with the movie. It was a chance they took that didn't work. Before 2001: A Space Odyssey and especially Star Wars, who would have thought classical/orchestra music went well with science fiction movies?

True... thankfully it probably spelt the end of tacky synth music in mainstream Sci-Fi, although Blade Runner had a trademark Vangelis mix of synth and 20's style vocals.
Been listening to The Strokes with Reptilia and it suits a cavalry charge quite nicely. (clip from HMV) (http://www2.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=1007;-1;-1;-1&sku=133964).
Has anyone played any LucasArts TieFighter games? They've got a really good music system (iMuse) that reacts to what is happening in-game and plays relevant tracks, like in the movies. Does that happen in MTW... I think it does but I'm usually so busy trying to micro-manage everything (bad habit but I can't break it yet http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-wall.gif ) that I don't notice.

Things got quite interesting the other night when I was on multiplayer and my Very random MP3 Playlist came up with the Parkwars DVDA song Now your a Man.
Still it could have been worse... The Robin Hood Men in Tights song is also sitting on my PC somewhere http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

When I attack the pope I always play Hang the Pope by Nuclear Assault just because it's so obvious (call me crazy but.... it makes sense http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-jester.gif )
Sometimes I listen to Speak English or Die by the Stormtroopers of Death if I'm playing as England... once again for obvious reasons.

Ahh yes 'Du Hast'. Thats a cool track for battle. Rob Zombie's 'Dragula' is also equally good in a major fight.
I found that the 'Burly brawl' music from CD2 on the Matrix Reloaded soundtrack goes very well with a fast paced battle... Though I was tempted to charge my troops all over the map to that one
