So I hear all these people talke about how you can re-train units etc. How do you do that? I've been talking to lots of people about assasins in Syria and how neato they are, and the first one I made was but after that they're pretty much run of the mill. Is there anything else I can do to make them better?

What about other units, can you improve them somehow?

THanks in advance

Retraining refers to combat units only - agents can't be retrained. It just restocks a combat unit with men, and grants any weapon/armor upgrades available where you retrain them - doesn't improve their valour any.

Do you have VI? If not, Syria does assasins no good at all.

are u talking about the harshaisn(sp)? then yes they can be retrained. to retrain units first click open the build unit box, next drag the unit u want to retain and put it in the build unit box. then wait a couple of years, depends, and BOOM the unit is brand spanking new. enjoy. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cheers.gif

Personally I love retraining. It upgrades the weapons and armour and if you have a particularly effective unit that has had its numbers dwindled, its a good way to replenish the unit back to full strength. I'd much rather retrain a unit I've already used than just pump out another new unit.

well you need the required buildings to retrain a unit.
just drag em in the boxes then theyll retrain.

the assasins cannot be retrained, if you have VI xpack then you can upgrade syria to a level 3 tavern after that you have have 5 star assasins.
a fun way to do this is be English, try and somehow go to syria and somehow upgrade all the tavers to level 3 all before 1190, thats when Guy of Gisbourne arrives i think, hes a 5 star assasin, so if you train him in syria which is fully upgraded its possible you can have a 10 star assasin :)

right now im still on my 8th star assasin, bloody crap takes too long. grrr

syria is a must have for assasins in VI.

I usually play GA so if I'm a catholic faction, I'll crusade to all 4 states if I can and nab syria as it strengthens my position to form a really rich block in the east. Then, most of your troops can sit in Syria and you can reinforce any of the other four you need to in one turn.

The assasins are just a big plus as it's pretty hard to get valour beyond 3 or 4 by training them whereas you can get 5 stars right outta the gates in syria.

That seems kinda impossible to do unless you alter the starting date.

But I never knew the English could get a 5 star hero assassin http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-stunned.gif That's nice

Thought there were only hero's for Combat units. Learned something new today http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

In plain MTW is there away to help assasins? My first assasin built had 5 valor. Bumped off 3 popes, 2 generals 2 princesses and a handfull of Alims before he was hung high going after the Doge http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif He will be remembered well, but his existance always denied http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-smile.gif

I've built about 10 since and all of them suck. Tips?

Thanks
A

well the easiest/cheapest is to save then reload, if you fail the 1st time load then wait 1 turn then try again. do this for 66% and above only.

another way i found good is to get 3 stars then get 2 star generals :) then when you get to 4 stars get 3 star general. get it?
5>4, 6>5, 7>6, etc.
