Royal Knights of any time period can be upgraded to later types. Is it possible to mod other units to work the same way, say Feudal Knights being upgraded to Chivalric Knights?
Has it anything to do with the Samurai tag that i notice these units have? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/gc-help.gif

Sorry, I'm pretty sure this is hardcoded and tied to the Royal Knight/Ghulam Bodyguard units.

A "YES" in the samurai tag makes a unit elite, so the answer is no.
Well I think you could essentially use the Royal Knight/Ghulam Bodyguards data and use it to create another unit in it's place (different looking units, but just using for example earlyroyalknights.*** (extension) file names etc etc - just everything related to those hardcoded upgradeable units). But that would be better for a total conversion I think :)

You are right about that. You can make the unit into whatever you like, and still have it upgradeable, as long as the name tag(EarlyRoyalKnight, HighRoyalKnight etc.) in the unit_prod.txt remains the same.
You will however only have two unit upgrade lines(Early RKn -> Late RKn and Early GBG -> Late GBG), so you can't make a mod based on upgrading units.
Didn't mean it as in "a mod based on upgrading", but you could have two unit lines to work with if you wanted certain units to upgrade into another.

I was just thinking about The Yogis wish to upgrade many types of units like Feudal Kn to Chiv Kn etc.

Ohh :)
It's actually too bad that it's hardcoded

Thanks guys
It really is a shame to have this hardcoded. Here you spend an era building up armies of battle-hardened veterans, and then you have to start from scratch with new units of essentially the same type.
Ah well...
